Lukaku - A Fond Farewell

The more I think about how we haven't replaced his guy the more bemused I get. Total and utter ineptitude from Walsh/Kenwright. If I'd done anything as inept as this in my job I'd have been sacked, and I wouldn't have been able to complain either.

should have never been sold this season, if moshiri was right about making us challenge again selling our best player shouldn't have been sanctioned regardless if he wanted out or not, he couldn't go into the season with a strop given it's world cup year. to make matters worse he wasn't replaced, even though he's a bad bad helmet don't half miss watching him, utter beast he was and by a country mile the best ever player i've watched for everton ( i'm 26 so doesn't say much to be fair )

Same here mate, little younger, but best striker I've seen hands down

He's better than us.

That may be so but you can still be better than us and show a bit of class. If he had given us three good years, head down trying every game till the end of season, I expect my view on him maybe different, perhaps maybe then he wouldn't have got the abuse he got in the first place to then retaliate by cupping his hand to his ear.

But every stage he has used us as a stepping stone, can't see why anyone should be devastated he has gone.

The likes of Fellaini & Arteta did this, worked there socks of while at the club and left amicibly (although with fellaini being belgian obviously while he was with us his dad did spout off a couple of times).
But they never seemed to receive any stick from our fans

Both boss too.

Can we stop using the word 'great' in the Lukaku context. There are very few great players. Lukaku is certainly not one of them - not by a long chalk. Yes he'd give you 9 or 10 excellent performances a season. But most of the other 40 or so would be 'average' to a 'downright disgrace'.

Agree on this, there was time when Lukaku played when you got the impression he couldn't wait to get off the pitch to get on his instagram account, great players don't hide and sulk. Unstoppable on his day, uninterested on many others

a player his age scoring the goals he did for a team constantly finishing 7th-mid table... yes he was great

He was/is not a "great" player. He just has an uncanny knack of scoring lots of goals, which is kind of a big deal in the great scheme of things. Yes, most of the time, when he was with us, we were really just playing with ten men and one lazy, sulking CF who still managed to give us bags of goals. Now we are playing with eleven men (headless chickens?) and not one of them is anywhere near being a goal machine, (not even a sulky one)!

makes no sense that lad, it's like a goalkeeper isn't great but has the knack of constantly keeping clean sheets

of course he is great, his job is to score goals, something he does on a regular basis

IMHO in order for a player to enter the elite category of greatness, he should excel all over the pitch, and be a true team player. If he was truly great he would have had fantastic hold up play (not rubber shins), would have given his all for the team in every game (not downed tools and sulked or moaned about going elsewhere at every opportunity) and would be a true inspiration to others and led the line.

Perhaps we are just talking about semantics, but regardless of his outstanding goal tally, he will just be remembered as a prolific goal scorer to me, which, as I pointed out, is kind of a big deal, but I cannot right now see us erecting a statue to him outside of Goodison, or the new stadium come to that.
