Lukaku - Love affair over ?

he is there to contribute goals, which he does.
its like morinho, he is no where near the standard of manager he was when he was first at chelsea in 2005, BUT he still brings in trophies for united

WEll that's just it, he doesn't contribute goals to the extent some would have you believe. He's got records like first u-25 to get 100 goals or whatever but that's purely down to him haven't a fully grown body at 16.

He's only ever once got a better than a 1 in 2 record in the premier league.

Compared to Harry Kane, every season for the last 4 seasons.
Aguero - 6/7 seasons (the one season he didn't was disrupted by injuries and distorted by sub stitute appearances)
Shearer did it for 6 out of 7 seasons.

etc

All these players offer more than Lukaku on top of their extra goals as well.

He just isn't that good and we absolutely rinsed them.

1 in 2 is world class tbf, or close to. Don't think you'll find anyone saying Rom is in the same league as those three players you mention. At least not now - I used to have a far higher opinion of him but the Royal Blue Jersey clouds one's judgement. It's easier to be objective now that he's stinking the place out for Utd.

Most of us would have Lukaku as among the top 5 strikers we've ever had in our entire history.

And if you know your history...

Fred Geary
Jack Southworth
Dixie Dean
Tommy Lawton
Alex Young
Fred Pickering
Bob Latchford
Andy Gray
Graeme Sharp

The last five provided more than just goals. Their all-round play was far superior to that of Lukaku.

The top four were absolute beasts for us in scoring, Fred Geary 86 in 98 games, for example.

1 in 2 is absolute minimum for £100m. He only attained once, when he was with us and helped out by a Hattrick against Sunderland and 4 against Bournemouth.

That list was hardly exhaustive, Suarez, Rvp, Rvn, Henry....

I know my history, and I'd still have Rom up there. He was that good for us, and will be better appreciated once a few years go by.

I'm in the Rom camp. Thought he was an excellent goalscorer for us. Ok, majority of his goals were against the teams outside the top six, but you still have to put them away. His attitude let him down, esp with the fans, but no one can take away his record.

I was at OT last night and Lukaku was utter bilge. An awkward shambling mess some of the time and missed at least one sitter.

On another note, why is Phil Jones?

ETA: and I laughed when Fellaini of all people equalised.

He hasn't looked right this season, confidence is low with the missed chances and I reckon tiredness and a World Cup hangover are also factors (though only Harry Kane is allowed to have that excuse).

Not happy with United fans turning on him and exaggerating his flaws, they are quick to forget that at times he was carrying our attack last season despite playing under a negative manager and being isolated up front too much of the time.
