Lukaku to Spurs

It's true tho isn't it. Our play in the final third has been horrendous all season. Baines, Pienaar and Osman making little triangles is still the only thing we do that's remotely creative.

Its all pointless anyway because he will be long gone come next season

I think you will see a much more committed player when he goes to a new club on a perm

You're a real sweetheart
Sorry, i'm just sick of people protecting a player who is clearly not made for a possession based system, to be successful in a possession system is a complete different kettle of fish to being successful in a counter attacking team which west brow where at the time.

Lukaku has no real attributes that I like, and allot that I dislike, can anyone say I am wrong on the following...

*Poor in the air
*Poor link-up play
*Poor passing and creativity
*Poor work rate
*Average touch and technical ability
*Average shooting and composure

So someone please tell me what exactly are we wanting to splash our full transfer war chest on, and please don't say potential.

I'm not even that arsed about his admittedly at times atrocious ball control, for me his biggest failing is something which will certainly improve with time - composure. He's so eager to make an impact when he does get the ball that he often rushes that first touch and ends up frustrating himself and the crowd. Perfect example today when he got the ball near the byline inside our own half after a clearance. A more experienced striker would have taken the ball under control and looked to play it out, but his first instinct was to knock it forward and charge towards goal, resulting in it going out and gifting Southampton a throw in.

He's boss, and there's nobody better to improve him than Martinez. I'd buy him all day long for £20m.

good shout about his composure, i think thats half his problem with his first touch atm, he's constantly thinking of what he's wanting to do after he receives the ball and it's making him sloppy when receiving the ball as he's half trying to beat someone or spin or lay the ball off etc before he's actually got the ball their under control. That will come with experience and when he stops trying to make something happen everytime the balls played to him

No hard feelings.

I didn't say we should splash all of our cash on him either. I've just been saying that Lukaku isn't total rubbish like people have been making him out to be. He isn't.

The squad needs depth right now, and I'd rather spend 20m on 3-4 players than one.

I like one quality of his the most. He scores a goal every two games.

When was the last time we had a player who did that ? Yak aside.

Who do you reckon will be in for him? I think he could end up in Italy myself.

This is true, but would he have scored that many goals in a David Moyes team? I mean kone even scored a similar amount in a worse Martinez run Wigan team.

Kone's goal per game ratio was a fair bit lower than Lukaku's is this season.

As for Moyes, I'm not arsed mate. For all the criticism Lukaku has been our most consistently scoring striker since what, the 80s ??

Yakubu. 15 in 29 first season, more spread out too across the campaign arguably.

I did refer to him previously but yeah he's the best in recent memory. Other than that though ?

I think Blues seem to have very high standards for strikers, almost unfair when you look at the level of ones we are used to.

We won't get better than Lukaku without either spending more or buying a player who is markedly older.

Hmm.

Obviously we are not complaining about the goals return, but considering he is the figurehead of our attack most of the play must go through him, it is not as cut and dry as goals scored, I want to see assists and interplay with our midfield players, bringing them into play and linking up the forward line with the midfield.

I think my fear is Lukaku is another Yakubu situation, because his attitude is worrying at times. If he HAS switched off and isn't motivated, spending £20m on him wouldn't be wise.

For £20m, you could be looking at Batshuayi (£8m?), Hernandez (who knows, £13-15m?) and have change left over for a good prospect or a Kone type gamble as well.

Think all I'm saying is that there are risks with signing Lukaku for big money, even if ultimately they are outweighed by the potential benefits.
