Lukaku to Spurs

He has scored more in more games. And came from the Eredivisie. And is 25.

So yeah. I'm saying we pay a premium for the sure thing rather than take the gamble of 12 million for Bony or 8 million for Altidore.

Lukaku scores bucketloads in the Premier League. Everyone acts like this is an easy and regular thing. How many strikers have scored 15 in back to back PL seasons? How many of those are 20? He's worth 20 million. We should have the money. Good strikers are worth spending big money.

Look at the R/S - a 25million striker has propelled them into the title race and is now worth 75? 90?

Not saying Lukaku will follow that path, but I just do not understand why people would rather take the risk on an unknown Dutch League or Belgian league striker over a kid that scores goals every other game and is bound to simply improve.
I'd pay 25m+ for him, but I don't believe he will come here on a permanent no matter what money Chelsea want.. if they want to sell him at all.

Totally different argument.

Not saying we will buy him - just that he's so absolutely painfully worth 20 million. It does my head in that people think 1 in 2 in the PL is easy business.

Interesting question. I won't argue which of these is world class, but here is a list of players that have scored 10+ in consecutive seasons in the PL at a similarly young age*.

19 or younger for 2nd season at 10+ goals:
Owen, Cottee

20:
Lukaku, Rooney, Fowler, Heskey

21:
Cole, Le Tissier

22:
Shearer, Defoe, Yak, Sutton, Agbonlahor

*Some scored their early goals in the first division; this data is not exhaustive and ignores other leagues, so no Henry, Cantona, etc.

Interesting, nice one!

I just don't think he'll improve that much, well, i certainly don't think his value will ever increase past 30 mill, he's limited to just scoring goals which is the whole point i know but i can't see him ever getting that first touch under control, he just doesn't seem to be built for close control, i can't see him ever doing one two's to open up defences, give and goes no chance, i also think he'll become easy for defenders to sus out, Andy Carroll was supposed to be a dead cert to improve but he hasn't, he's gone worse, i just think we could get a lot better

Wait, what? I don't even... I'm off for a lie down.

Yeah completely agree mate, he's a superb player, his first touch is pretty poor, especially when trying to play other is, but he's 20 and will continue to improve. His goal scoring and play with the ball at his feet is superb and worth stupid money in today's market.

This is key as well.

Strikers are being bought for absolutely ridiculous sums. Anyone that can get the ball in the net is worth 6 million (Kone, Vic, Shane Long, Jelavic). Anyone that can do a bit better is over 10 million. Anyone with potential to be great is 20+. It's just the way the market is.

There are some exceptions, ala Michu last season, but we can't be doing a Swansea and just signing players that may make it. If we want to kick on for top 4, we need to sign a sure thing as our main striker.

Before his last goal against city when was the last time he scored, i've forgotten

If he can score between 15-20 goals a season with a poor touch, then I can't wait to see how many he can score one that aspect of his game improves.

I'll have you a bet right now that his touch will never improve, i mean to the point were it is not noticeable how bad it is, i think it'll improve SLIGHTLY and i mean very slightly, he is 20 and a proffessional footballer, his touch wouldn't be this bad at this age if it was not a major problem for him
