Its a no brainer for me, we would get our money back in a few years as well if it does not work out.
I think he will only get better.

Tubey, unless roms legs fall off, he's worth at least £15 million for the foreseeable. Paying £5 million over the odds is a calculated gamble. If he doesn't improve, we COULD still get a hefty wedge for him. If he improves, then KERRCHING! It's a no brainer mate.
He's by no means the finished article and by no means a risk free signing.
.
He was poor in general in the second half of the season, has the style of game that could be very "streaky" and could be found out. He's by no means the finished article and by no means a risk free signing.
I don't think we could sign a 20 goal a season striker for less - but I'm not convinced Lukaku is a 20 goal a season striker. I've only seen him play well in counter attacking sides (WBA and us in the transition phase under Martinez) where we could get balls to his feet so he can run at people, or put him in behind a defence in the channels.
None of us know what he's going to be like consistently as a focal point where he's required to put in the work rate and bring other players into play when pushing an opposition back.
On balance, worth the gamble, but not worth £25m+.
Right and wrong in one sentence
if it puts Naismith under pressure to produce what we all know he can, then it's worth every penny chum
Talking tosh there.
It's odd, but the more mobile Naismith in the forward position in our system put Lukaku to shame a few times in 2014. And that's my concern - does Lukaku fit the system consistently, in the way you'd expect from a £20m+ striker (which, in reality, is like a £40m+ signing for our rivals).
But that doesn't mean he's the dead cert signing for guaranteed goals people make him out to be for us.

Bit late coming into this thread and I really can't be bothered to look back, but I gather a fee of £20 million has been agreed for Lakaku.
I don't know what's happened but last week I was reliably informed the fee agreed was £22 million with 18 million paid up front and the other £4 million being paid in installments over the course of the season.
Who knows ? !!
