Lukaku

The only problem I see is once it goes over £25M. He could score two or three in Brazil then it's goodnight Irene. RM has the ability to sweet talk him and I think Rom respects Everton as a whole, and the question is whether he wants to become even more of a legend and bring true glory to this club.

I think we should be prepared to go more than 25 million. The transfer goal posts have changed again thanks to the influx of TV money so a circa 10 mil player becomes 15+. Our side currently has some unbelievable talent through the spine of the team that is crucially under the age of 23.

We don't have this in the forward line. I would blow almost the entire budget on him, get the current squad on improved deals, and flesh out the squad with clever purchases (eg, buy Robertson and Barry if wages are sensible and use pre season to coach Baines into the new Lahm). Oviedo can play on the wings and Garbutt should progress.

We looked toothless without Lukaku. The striker position is so important as proved during the first 3/4 games of the season and the period when Romelu was injured. He isn't the finished article, but he is exactly what we need.

Dont see why people are saying they hope he has a rubbish world cup i want him to do well , if we dont sign him we dont sign him & we move on without him. I hope he has a great world cup for the year he has given us

I hate to say it but this makes perfect sense.

If he has a rubbish world cup it will only compound what I actually believe about him - that decent defenders can keep him quiet - Lovren had him in his pocket for the whole 90 minutes against Southampton and when he needed to have a little more guile, touch, and finesse he looked pretty much like had nothing.

If we had other viable striker options instead of Lukaku we would have seen his flaws more clearly.

Its a bit like buying a porsche with teething problems, some days it runs great, other days it doesn't start, but hey its a porsche isnt it? For me we need a car thats runs every time you turn the key.

There were key games where I thought he was awful, Palace at home, West Brom away, Southampton away.

People call him a goalscorer - how many times did deulofeu hit the byline and zip a ball across the 6 yard box and Lukaku was standing on the penno spot. Goalscorers end up in the net with the ball in those positions.

There's a bit of a Football Manager 2014 mentality going on here - ending up paying over the odds for a player that you never thought would come to you - just because it says "would be extremely interested in the move"

Oh my...

I just think this is a total no go...
For what we need regarding Europe I would prefer 4/5/6 players of a v good standard and build from there...20+ on one man is silly in my view....

Erm he scored a fantastic goal against Southampton at Goodison, and scored past 8 of the 10 meanest defences in the league (obviously he couldn't face Chelsea though). Also in those 3 games you mentioned hardly anyone came out of them with any credit, you're really scrapping the bottom of the barrel now.

Southampton away I said. Pretty much like many of his away performances - he only scored 5 goals away from home and for me lacked any real threat in many of them.

The 3 games I mentioned - one being WBA he miscontrolled a pass on the half way line which led to their equaliser. Southampton and Palace who both pressed hard - he doesn't have the assured touch to hold the ball up not the accuracy of passing to retain possession - his passing accuracy was 65%.

Saying that hardly anyone came away with any credit is not justification for a player not being able to do the basics. I wasn't expecting him to go on a run and beat 3 men and score, I do expect him to be able to use his 6ft 3 frame and size to look after the ball and take pressure off the team.

There's a good reason that Mourinho isn't keen to retain him, he loses the ball far too easily. We have full backs who bomb on when we attack, we can't have a centre forward who concedes posession so easily.

We can't afford this.

You want Aguero, or Suarez, or RVP. There are very few players in the world that show up every single week and score goals.

They are all worth more than 50 million.

Your point was "decent defenders keep him quiet" well I've just pointed out that he's scored past the vast majority of the leagues best defences, no goalscorer will score in every game you're asking the impossible. His touch may not be perfect and yes our fullbacks do like to push forward but the gaps they leave are well covered by our midfield players incase it's escaped your attention, so its not as disastrous as your making out.

At the age of 20 he's still got a lot to learn but there's no doubt there's talent there, and the added bonus is he's scoring goals while perfecting his craft. Mourinho isn't exactly renowned for his development of talent he likes his players at the peak of their game so he is challenging at the top, we don't have the resources to buy these type of players but we can develop them. If we have any chance of buying this lad we need to push it as far as possible there's no doubt he'll be a top draw player coveted by many in the near future, nit picking and deconstructing his every performance won't take away how talented he is.

I agree with the pricing of those players - however if Lukakus weak points weren't so obvious I could stomach them for the goals and pace he provides. The fact is that he miscontrols passes and misplaces too many of his own - just too much risk for me.

At £20m he is the right squad player for a club with £££ and with the need to be able to throw someone on for the last 20 to shake up a tired defence.

For us, its putting all our precious eggs in one basket.

I would sooner see us try and get Bony or Remi - thats my take any hows.

I can kind of see your point. However, of those games you mentioned where he never played well, we lost. When he did play well, we tended to win or at least get a point. This doesn't tell me that we shouldn't buy Lukaku, it tells me that we should buy him immediately, get him a consistent and settled life and enjoy watching the lad improve, with us. In fact, really break the bank and buy another quality player to play alongside him, or change the game if Lukaku seems off.
