Think about it this way. If we were selling him, and not buying him, would you be happy with getting a £28m fee? I wouldn't.

I would. Chelsea bought him for £18m and have done absolutely nothing to help develop him. Yet his value has gone up by £10m! So Everton end up paying a small fortune for having developed him themselves. Decent business for Everton -- tremendous deal for Chelsea.

spent 27m for Lallana,
spent 27m for Lovren,
spent 22m Markovic

Rom is likely to be world class in a few more years. These sort of players aren't bought by mid table teams. These sort of players are usually bought by teams competing for the league. The £28 million is completely justified. Massive statement of intent

Mate why do you care what they or anyone else thinks? We all know how important he can be for us. I think they are just surprised we actually had £28 million to spend, as are most of us.

If anything they are one of the reasons we had to spend that much, if it wasn't for the fact they (and teams like City and Chelsea) overpaid on Carroll and other players people might still have a rational perspective on the real value of a top centre forward

Just as a side note, it's funny how people are outraged at the rising cost of footballers. They are entertainers, nobody bats an eyelid when Leonardo Dicaprio gets offered 20 million plus for a single film or Tom Hanks makes hundreds of millions by agreeing a deal for a % of Toy Story's takings. The game has moved on, it's not a sport anymore, unfortunately it's a business
