Lukaku

He is not worth more than 20 and I dont think I would even like us spendng that on him if im honest.

I really hope he has a shocking World Cup then the haters and the media jump on board saying he's overrated ect, would hopefully put off several teams, make Chelsea a bit more likely to sell and lower his price.

If he goes and dominates at the World Cup we stand no chance.

The fact that we will sort out Barry next week yet wait til after the World Cup for Lukaku says we wont sign him, to me anyway, simply because surely by mid July other irons will be in the fire, their is no way Roberto will hold back his entire kitty (which is what Lukaku will cost) until after the competition finishes. We should sort Delofeu out and get Barry Signed next week, along with Asking Monaco for another full year from Traore, once that is out the way look at the squad and go from there. IMHO

Lukaku needs to look at yaya toure and think "that's what us big lads who grew hairy bollocks at the age of 10 need to do"

When you see lukaku get so much love is it any wonder why the English footballing principles lie in ancient times? He can't control a football yet is valued at £20m and some are happy to pay it?

I'm not going against the grain to be fashionable but the lad regardless of his age is technically [Poor language removed]. Quote all the goals to games etc and I'll quote you Andy Johnson at palace, or naismith this year.

I'm not saying he's the worst player I've seen, but the money spouted is a joke. He's like Victor Anichebe with a hint of a poacher.

He has his good games against poor defenders who stand off him. Get stuck into him and don't allow him to face you and he's bang average. Needs more to his game, far more.

Jose new how short of striking quality his team were in the summer yet still let rom out on loan. He didn't praise him, saying it was about improving his game, he didn't say he'll be important for Chelsea in the future or he'll be a asset to them the next season following his loan...

He has in as many words said roms not good enough for Chelsea. There's something Jose does not like about him. Tbh His touch is shocking and I wouldn't say it's really improved over the season.

At this point lukaku is worth about what Chelsea paid for him between 12-18M. The key with lukaku is what he'll be like in 3 yrs time. Chelsea know were probably one of the only clubs who would agree to a buy back clause in the deal....that IMO gives us a great chance!

A 20 year old who has scored 15goals in both his first 2 full seasons in England, £20mill is a bargain. Whether it's a bargain for US is a different matter. I'd buy him but at the same time would be reluctant to spend all the budget on one player when we need more than 4 players at least is worrying.

Sky money gone up now so players value will be up, 20 million is a snip for a player of his quality. Shane long went for 7 million, Bale went for 100 million. Norwich paid 8.5 million for Ricky V W, Cornelius went for 8 million to Cardiff, so it can be a risk spending 10 million on someone who not played in the premiership, I recken 20 million is a great price, I recken Chelsea will want more, like 27 million which will be out of our price range.

He's not marrying Katie is he? Steer clear Rom, she's handled more rod than Tony Hibbert ffs......

Oh you mean how much would he cost...errr...18.5m would be fair.

Context is important in terms of transfer fee - he is 20 - hes going to improve - hes going to be 30 mill +.

If he stayed until 25, 26, your looking at what 4 -5 mill a season out lay + wages - eventually make a profit.

If he stayed until 30 your looking at 2 mill a season.

Well worth that IMO for min of 15 goals a season and i would predict more.

We wont get him though.

Put it this way. Name me another young striker that has proved his worth in the Prem and has the presence and ability of Rom?

Exactly.

No player under 21 has registered more goals and assists in EUROPE's top 5 leagues this season than Romelu Lukaku.

I've changed my mind. I'd pay up to 25m

Even if he never gets any better than he currently is he's worth about £15-20 million. Add to that his potential if he does improve and he'll be worth every penny to us unless we pay a stupid amount.

Which we won't.

Lukaku has certain attributes which make him a 15-20 million player. He scores a good tally of goals, strength and can run at defenders. Perfect for the PL really.

He has other weaknesses which mean he's not in the 20million+ bracket of stickers. Poor control, no vision, loses the ball often. You don't develop vision or control with age.

From a Chelsea point of view, they can't afford, at CL level to have a guy like this. This is why they don't want him. Which is is fair enough.

He's a top end PL striker but he's never going to be worth 30 odd million to the top European sides who have that kind of money. This idea that strikers get better with age is a bit of a myth. They tend to get worse. It's a dangerous idea to value him based on some future projection.

I'd definitely take him, with his flaws for 15-20m though.

Some valid good points in there, I tend to agree with you. One thing I'll say is strikers normally hit there peak 24-28 as a yardstick but it also seems determined by what age they burst onto the scene at. Most players could have between 12-20 years at the very top and this is normally where the decline starts, just my opinion of course.

Yeah, mid 20's for most is the peak. Can depend on body shape, how much they rely on pace, burnout and what kind of social life they lead.

You hear it all the time though, 'wow if (Fowler, Owen, Ferguson, Cottee, Torres, Rooney, etc etc) are this good now, how good will they be in 5 year's time?' - answer; not very.
