@rochdaleblue @tsubaki it seemed as though that was the reason Mourinho loaned him straight away. As I recall we contacted Chelsea for Demba Ba and they offered Lukaku instead

We did, but only because we didnt think the lad was available. Pretty sure everyone would have thought after his 17 goal season at West Brom that the lad would be getting a look in at Chelsea. Mourinho never rated him so chose to keep Ba over Lukaku.

My theory will always be that Chelsea didnt sell us luakaku because they wanted to. They sold him to adhere to FFP and they knew they would just have to sell him for the highest amount someone daft enough would pay and worst case scenario is that they buy him back as a better player in the future.

i mean this is chelsea, not bolton wanderers here.

I think it was as simple as Mourinho knowing he's nowhere near good enough for them.

Leading the line for a top side is a very difficult job. It takes a lot more than just the ability to put chances away.

See in the past mourinhio has invested and chelsea sold that investment away. for example Matic. Jose bought him chelsea sold him, so jose bought him back.

If cheslea want him in the future then they will sign him again no question on that. I agree that perhaps jose saw him as not good enough to lead the line right now, obviously he saw costa could and went all out for him. I just think that chelsea may have sold lukaku in the short term but long term if they were to sign him in 3-4 years time they would get the player they wanted, but with less of the failings through development.
