Lukaku

What is he? 21? Any player at that age has anonymous games. He has a few "bad" games every now and then. We can't afford the finished article now. Lukaku will be the finished article in 4 or 5 years. This is the best chance we will have of signing a player of his potential but hes also proved he can score goals for us.

It's all well and good praising players like Naismith who run around a lot when playing badly but we've had those type or players for the last 15 years and we haven't achieved anything by Everton standards. Lukaku has that little bit of class we've been missing up front. He really could be one of the best strikers in the world.

I don't understand how people can view him any differently. What would you have us do? Go out and buy another Andy Johnson. We've been a club since rooney left without a striker, bar yakubu for a season we've not had much up front but we've had real quality in other areas. I think lukaku would change all that. It would be beneficial for him as well, the World Cup has proved he's not at that level yet. We aren't at champions league level either but we and he definitely have the potential to be.

Basically he is a 6ft 4 poacher who doesn't really work hard for the team nor has any ability to link up. If we want a poacher lets see if Kevin Phillips fancies it...

I think we'll have to promote from within if we buy Lukaku

Chuck the younger players in at the deep end. That could damage their progression. Out of or youth set up the only players I think you could throw into the first team and expect them to hang would be Duffy and Long, with McAlney, Lundstram, Kennedy and Browning on the cusp

Put someone like Kennedy in and he may shine or it may be too much too soon. I'm wary of us having to do that. As most on here will know, I'm in favour of giving the younger players a chance, but you have to be sensible and cautious about it.
There's one thing we can take out of this season and that's Martinez knows what he is doing with youth. If the players are there knocking at the door then they will make their way into the first team. Stones and Barkley this year have been phenomenal but a lot of that is to do with the belief that Roberto has shown them.

Christ that's depressing mate!

You never know mate, Kone might come good yet

The drop between top level strikers and journeymen strikers is so amazingly steep at the end of the day

If Martinez can't get Lukaku, would he consider it prudent to gamble 15-20 Million on a decent striker who hasn't been here before? Or would he rather take less of a gamble on a much less cheaper option? Or would he stick with "Lukaku or nothing" and try and make the most out of what we already have?

These sort of tough decisions is why he's earning his pay cheque I guess

Lets be honest Martinez has not said anything negative about one player, even Vellios got this comment:- “I think it’s been a disappointing season for himself but he’s always had a terrific attitude and always a real desire to try to work hard for the team,” - which we all know is nonsense.

Its not his style not to be positive. I think he will try for another loan season for Lukaku rather than risk £20m+.
The more I think about Origi the more I think £8-£10m would be a risk worth taking.

But he has worked in a similar set up at Swansea, albeit a slightly less efficient one.

Indeed, but it's still a gamble and there are other areas of the squad that need strengthening. Bony has looked good and he may even do better than Lukaku, but Martinez has seen Lukaku and worked with him already.

You need to be prepared to gamble sometimes when it comes to signing players, but Martinez may think that if he can't get Lukaku, he'll take the 20 Million and spend it to strengthen elsewhere rather than risk blowing it all on one player he's unfamiliar with.

He clearly has faith in Kone or he wouldn't have signed him

Youve just stated thst lukaku is poor when he isnt on form based on 2 games in a world cup. Then below say origi looks quite good (based on 2 games).

Adding in Wellbeck as a potentially good striker and knocking lukaku doesnt make any sense. Of the 3 players only lukaku has scored 15+ goals two seasons running as a kid.

It just doesnt make any sense.

Its a bit like "get rid of Moyes?! who would we get - we will get relegated and so a Sheff Wed"

The origi looks quite good...

Me and you must be watching a different player. You would rather us go for a player who has never played for Everton over a player who's been a genuine goal scorer for us this season. Based on two games.

16 goals in 33 games in arguably the best league in the world at 21

Based on what, 2 games at the World Cup? I'd rather take a 'risk' on a player that has smashed in plenty of goals in the premier league already whilst still developing.
