Bottom line is Bainsy won't be ready so we will have to make a change. We have 2 fit RB's 2 fit CB's , 1 LB who has been out for a year and then it's kids.

Fair point like...the way I see it tho is the kids have gotta step up some day, and what better chance than when were so depleted?

I think in an ideal world Garbutt's introduction would come through league cup games and early FA matches. Coming to terms with the team and style under considerably less pressure than league/european games.

Unfortunately this is not an ideal world and we are Everton. Baines won't be ready, and I wouldn't want Martinez to risk a more serious injury to our best player (this season) for the sake of 3 points. Oviedo is still coming back from a horrendous leg break and only got the pins removed a few weeks ago. The chances of him being fit and mentally able to play 90 minutes against premier league competition are slim to say the least.

And so we turn to Garbutt. He has trained with the squad and has already been given his debut. He looks promising in some areas and a little lacking in others (most youth players are. Even Barkley isn't perfect.) and will most likely be out of his depth over 90 minutes in the PL.

He would be thrown in at the deep end, that's for sure, but there's a good chance he'll be able to cope (at least adequately).

If we don't play Garbutt now while Baines and Oviedo are injured we never will, with his contract running down we need to either give him a chance or accept that he will be leaving at the end of the season, playing someone out of position ahead of him will be quite a snub and if I was him there'd be no way I'd sign a contract extension.

Didnt we go through this last year when Baines got injured, with everyone saying who will fill in for him? everyone was unsure of Oviedo. I seem to recall he came on and did an absolute belter of a job. It Garbutts turn now. He's 21, so no longer a kid. he should be ready for this. Martinez keeps saying about bringing the kids through the ranks. He seems to have faith in them, hence the signing of new contract for 7 of them this summer. I say give the guy try. if he does get a start on Saturday, I for one will be there in Gwladys St cheering him on.

When did we last score from a corner?

Under moyes we seemed to be most threatening from corners but its hard to remember a goal from a corner under Martinez!
Well, the other week, but in the league the last one is against the RS, at least the last one I remember. Baines takes about 1 good corner every 50 games now anyway, sadly - always hits the first man.

Bobby doesn't like relying on corners and that, but it's amazing how Baines never goes past the first man ffs. Dead ball expert as well and all that!

The moons of Endor aligned and we scored from a corner when we snorted Lille the other week.

No no I'm not having that one boys!! The Lille goal was indirect from a corner wasn't it?

Bainesy took it short, sold an outrageous dummie and put the cross in with his right peg.....when did we last score from a direct corner!?
