play him now we're safe - lull into false sense of security, signs contract ... back on bench. harsh but makes business sense. if he wants to leave next year then we get a fee/gives us longer to see if he's up to the grade.
It's for that reason that I can't see playing him making any difference.

I also can't see why a young man would pass up a huge pay rise since this will be his first proper contract and loose out on all that earnings if he had any intention of signing.

The only thing I can think might tempt him is the fact Oviedo has only a year left and Baines' decline. If he stayed he would probably be first choice by right by this time next season.

It migh however simply be a question of money and if it is then perhaps we should look at paying what it costs to keep him and play him now to be able to make a more informed decision.

Unfortunately it seems like a hard decision with what to do buts that really just down to having little options.

Some times players don't connect with teams, same applies to sterling, he doesn't seem to have any connection with the rs fans or club. Garbutt is 22 soon and will be looking for a club. Who can offer a pay rise and a first team place. He might even drop down a league to find this or he been tapped up by a club looking to fill the English quota . baines got a few years left at the top so garbutt knows that he could be on the bench for another 2 seasons.

Personally think he is absolute quality and we should be getting him signed - will be at least as good if not better than Luke Shaw and look how much he went for!!! Fact he hasn't signed I think means his agent has him sorted elsewhere. We have to remember how we signed him in the first place - remember Ken Bates going mental how we had tapped him up? Unfortunately he is one of those savvy players who will look after himself and no particular loyalty. He is not a Hibbert or Ossie who will sign anything put in front of him

Luke Shaw is 4 years younger by the way and already played over 73 games in the premiership.

Garbutts a decent player, but im not sure you can claim hes got the best left foot in the club, I mean, really.

Okay, perhaps a bit harsh on Baines, but Garbutt's crossing and corners are great from what I've seen of him.

We can't win them all, he may have already been tapped up. If he not caught the Everton bug then he not who we need. We are blessed with baines who twice the player.

As a left back Baines has 3 seasons left, max, at his current level IMO. Garbutt hasn't even reached his full potential yet.

Baines is our number one choice left back because he's the best at the club, arguably one of the best in the league. Garbutt wants first team football, which is fair enough. It's up to him to decide whether he sticks it out here and waits to overtake Baines or move on. I don't think Oviedo will cut it, he's struggled since his injury.

It doesn't make him a tit, like. He's thinking about his relatively short career.
