I'm confused here. There's some here claiming he should be given a first team birth over Baines?

Firstly, Baines is the best left back in England and in the top 5 in Europe so this 'Baines is declining talk' is absolute nonsense. He's one of our best passers, been almost impeccable defensively and continues to lead on goals and assists. So Baines is, and should, be our number 1 left back.

Then, whilst Garbutt has impressed, he's not even at Oviedo's level. Taking into account that Garbutt's 22 and Oviedo's 25. If Garbutt goes we are no weaker in my opinion. Garbutt is all potential and just because he takes a mean free kick doesnt make him a first choice left back, or demanding 25k+ a week that seems to be the sum he wants.

So, when you properly think it through, if he stays then thats great, we have a potentially quality left back. If not, he goes, and it'll be a disaster for his career I'd imagine, while we stay strong in that area.

This is just outright false. What has Oviedo done since coming back from his injury?

Also, what? You've just admitted he's 3rd choice left back, so how would leaving to be first choice left back for another club be a "disaster for his career"? Think about what you're typing, please

The only thing that will piss me off is if he does go to them lot across the park. That would be pyar judas move

Because if he thinks he's going to walk straight into another team of Everton's quality he's got another thing coming. And with respect what did Garbutt do while he played that Oviedo didn't?

Baines has cost us goals this year his defending has not been impeccable
The only problem for me is if we loose garbutt
And Oviedo could be entering his last year if he signed for 4yrs?
So could sign a pre-contract in January if he's doesn't get much game time early next season
So potentially loosing 2 very good Young left backs for nothing
And could cost us a lot of money to get that type of quality
When baines is finished

Baines is way more defensively solid than most people give credit for. Yeah he's made the occassional mistake but no more than other top defenders.

That's the only issue, it is a gamble if we let him go because he does have potential to be Baines' successor. But if he's patient enough he'll get his shot here.

"Of Everton's quality". How good do you think we are mate, we're 10th? And maybe he won't, maybe he'll join someone like West Brom or Palace, and develop as a Premier League player. How could that possibly harm his development more than getting splinters in his arse here?

He offered us much more of an attacking outlet, boundless energy and deadly set piece delivery. Looked very much like a Baines of 4 years ago. So remind me again what Oviedo has done?

Exactly mate.

I cant believe the amount of slack this feller is cut. He's a decent LB, no question (though I'd put it no greater than that at the moment). He's intentionally running his contract down at Everton to get off to a club who'd pay a fraction of what we could get for him if he signed a contract and we're supposed to see his side of things?! Pffft!

He's been given game time and Everton have brought him through at a reasonable pace.

If he wants to go then fine. How anyone makes a case for his side of the story is beyond me.

Don't let your vendetta against him for his post-Newcastle tweet get in the way of sense, Dave. That sentence is utter rubbish

We're 10th right now but we all know we're better than that. That's like saying United are all of a sudden a mid table team because they had one poor season.

Oviedo came into the team and scored twice in three games last year, that's the way to force yourself in, not whip in a decent cross every now and then. If he really wants to develop then he needs to be patient and wait for his chance here. Send him out on loan to one of these clubs you mention to see if he's really got what it takes consistently.

Positionally while he's played he's been very dodgy, but that'll come with time. But there's no point trying to cover up his weaknesses, when he offers no more going forward than Oviedo and Bryan's better at the back.
