I wish he'd stop bulls***ing all the time. If he's planning to play Garbutt, don't lie to the press and give Evertonians sleepless nights at the thought of Hibbert playing at left back in the Premier League in 2014

I can't even begin to fathom the fume if Hibbert starts at left back. I do think Hibbert has played well when called upon this season, but he's very limited which doesn't work too well in our team, never mind coupling that with him playing on the left.

Behave lad, they all know theyve got more chance than anywhere of making it at us
Honestly if we put Hibbo out over Garbutt I would question that.

Barkley was obvious. Stones was brought in, not our youth product. Gerry was a loan, and Rom broke through on loan at West Brom. If I saw a young promising player like Garbutt not selected over an over the hill and out of position Tony Hibbert, I would certainly begin thinking about making my name at a club further down the PL ladder.

We need to have faith in our youth, let them play, and let them make mistakes. We aren't winning the league this season, and we won't be winning regularly anytime soon unless we build a hell of an academy.

That means showing real faith in our academy products.

....presume RM is perhaps giving Hibbert a confidence boost rather than seriously considering him. His earlier communication centred on having either Browning or Garbutt lined up and I expect this is still the case. Mentioning Hibbert could also be a curve ball for West Ham.

The only way I can see Hibbert playing is if RM feels the Hammers have a particular right wing threat that Hibbert is best qualified to nullify.

Lets have it right, roberto revived Ross's career and sped up his development, Stones wouldve still been playing for the youth sides as a RB, but hes been givin his chance and believe in and trusted, Gerry was brought in and given a go.

This season Brownings making the breakthrough, and robertos already said theres more to get there chances this season
We're one of the best now at bringing through young players and just because hibbert might or might not start doesnt change that.

And im against hibbo playing ahead of garbutt, but there'll be a reason for it if it does or doesnt happen

They've got that lad from French football on the right wing who's fast, direct and been on fire since he signed (can't remember his name!) I can see Hibbert being deployed to shackle him as he's been a big player for them. It may be a case of not wanting Garbutt to face someone so on form on his home debut and possibly take a big confidence knock. I'd prefer a left back to come in but Martinez has a responsibility to help manage Garbutts long term progress and it would be understandable and not such a slur on the lad if Hibbert does get the nod.

Let's be completely fair.

Roberto came in after a manager that was particularly bad about youth.

Not being David Moyes with youth doesn't automatically make you a master of youth development. I happen to generally agree with your sentiments. But if I were a youth player for Everton and saw Tony Hibbert playing left back ahead of Luke Garbutt this season, I would seriously question the likelihood of breaking through with Everton.

I guess this is where I really kind of disagree.

You have to trust him. He's not a 17 year old in a new place that's going to get terribly abused if he has a poor game. He's 21, been in our reserves for quite a while behind Baines and Oviedo, and finally has a chance to play a proper debut and the manager picks Hibbert?

I'd fume. I'd fume so properly hard if I were in his situation.

It belies a lack of trust.

The manager's comments are curious. However, IMHO, if Browning was ready to appear and mark Raheem Sterling in his debut, then surely Garbutt is ready to appear vs. West Ham given his recent good form at U-21 international level as well as in the COC v Swansea City.
