McAleny had the right idea. Signing a contract until he's 25 after having played about 5 minutes of first team football. Good on him showing loyalty to der mighty blooz, not like that floppy haired scum bag who's only interested in, I don't know, playing football or something. Pfffffft, what a turncoat RAT

Because football clubs are things people invest their emotions in. Football is a sport, not a business or company. 40,000 people don't rush to watch a business every weekend, they go because they love their club and in many cases adore the players

Agreed. Though we need to remember football's a hobby - it's not something that saves lives or is essential to the improvement of humanity (they'd be paid much more poorly if that were the case). Imagine getting paid for your hobby.

A previous post said, "you only get to do it for 15 years," having been paid to do your hobby for 15 year - luckly lads, they can always re-train and do another job! Just like anybody else made redundant for instance.

I don't understand the bitterness being directed at Garbutt? He walked out on the club that raised him as soon as we came sniffing, surely we don't expect loyalty from him? I always find this strange behaviour from blues fans, we expect totally loyalty from someone who has already shown an element of mercenary behaviour in coming to us in the first place?

To make matters worse, we often treat players who have shown absolute loyalty to the blue shirt (Ossie! hibbo etc.) with utter contempt! Odd crew we are!
It has been clear Baines has been struggling with some sort of injury as his corners barely beat the first man surely he could have been rested to encourage Garbutt to have a run of games, continuing on from his good Europa form -it may have made him sign now Baines needs an ankle operation!

I don't get sending him on loan next season. He's come in this year and shown he's not that much inferior to Baines, albeit he doesn't offer the same set piece threat. Oviedo is always injured so now surely Luke is second choice. He ought to be going into the new season with a 50/50 chance of starting games. Maybe being told that he is currently second choice, but if and when Baines gets injured or drops form, then it's his position to lose. Unless he's got a real arse hole of an agent, that should be enough to get him to sign.

Dont think he's taken a direct free kick at goal but his dead ball delivery was excellent in the short time he was in the team....

AYE LID NOW LET'S SORT OUT A MARCH TO GET IM OUT OF R CLUB LYK!!!!!!

WHOS IN LADZ?

It all depends on how long Baines has left at the top level i think....4 years?

Alot of the top sides generally sell once players hit 29/30 and bring in a much younger player...if Baines wasnt home grown (via Wigan) i think he would be moved on this summer to make way for Garbutt.

Which top sides?

Chelsea have Ivanovic who is 31 and of the champions league semifinalists 3 of the fullbacks were the age you quote (Alves, Evra, Rafinha). And that is just fullbacks - lots of players like Pirlo, Lahm, Alonso, Ronaldo, Ramos, Pepe, Robben, Ribery, Iniesta who are 30+ yet are seen as vital members of those teams.

Think most clubs look to see if the player is still performing at a good level and keep them as long as they are. Of course they need to also plan for an eventual successor but just don't see the evidence that they are keen to sell players over 29.

Over a long period of time under Wenger and Ferguson, Arsenal and Utd. Other than home grown players theyve flogged a heck of a lot of stars around that age...

He's spat in the club's face by not wanting to rot on the bench for half of his career. What a judas, how dare he want to actually play and improve as a footballer

I'm awful sorry to hear that he feels Everton are holding his career back. That'll be the Everton that took him from some hopeless Tyke club going nowhere fast, gave him a pro contract and played him as a member of the first team in Europe and in the PL.

What monsters our club have behaved like toward him. Maybe we can get him to stay by offering him the top wages at the club and sell Baines and Oviedo?

Yes, let's do that. It'll make up for how appallingly he's been treated so far.

I realise you're being sarcastic, but I have to say I agree with your general point.

Great if he stays, but if he wants out, there's the door. If people think the club have treated him badly, then equally, he has hardly been offered a pittance to stay, has he? Works both ways, he's hardly a proven player yet.

I'd like him to stay, personally.
