Maybe there was/is a justified reason for that?

(Like, for example, a few nicely-placed corners and crosses in a few games don't take the place of all-round defensive awareness and positioning.)

Garbutt was quite good going forward (although I think he is a bit one-footed and gets himself into a position to lose the ball high up the pitch too often) but merely adequate defensively (as was Galloway). Both are likely to be found out when people have tape on them to study (see Barkley to a certain extent) and are going to have to take an extra step up to get regular games. That comes with experience, if it is going to come.

(Incidentally, I also didn't think Baines had a good season and his defensive positioning and cross-stopping can also be questioned but Garbutt is nowhere near taking his - or a fit Oviedo's - place. If we get him signed up and out on loan we are in the position that Barcelona were with Deufoleu where someone else is getting the experience into him in return for a potential 'in' if he doesn't work out for us.)

Of course, but it's irrelevant if your Luke Garbutt.

He needs games, he's not only behind Baines here, but also Oviedo.

If I was him then I would probably leave.

He might play well on loan somewhere next year and then come back to the same.

Okay, I understand what you were trying to say in your response to me before, now.

I've said in previous posts, I've no problem if Garbutt wants to leave for first team football. It'll be a shame as he looks a good prospect, but we already have 2 very good left-backs.

Signing him then loaning him out to a team were he'll get first team football is the ideal scenario.

Whats Oviedo's injury status?

Baines is out for a while and may not be up to speed...so is it realistic thar Garbutt would go on loan if he did sign?

With Baines/Oviedo both injured and Garbutt on loan we'd have Galloway as the only option there.

Baines will be fit for around mid preseason, think Oviedo is similar

Would be good to send him on loan to a team like Sunderland or one of the promoted sides. I'm sure they could use a LB.

Luke Garbutt will complete a dramatic u-turn and commit his long-term future to Everton.

The 22-year-old defender is close to finalising a new five-year-deal with the Blues after lengthy negotiations with the club.

Garbutt will be sent on loan to another Premier League outfit next season before returning to Goodison for the 2016-17 campaign where he will challenge Leighton Baines for the left-back slot.

Bournemouth are the current favourites to take the England under-21 international but an agreement is yet to be sorted.

The south coast side, along with Swansea City, offered Garbutt a permanent deal after the full-back’s contract with Everton expired.

But after long and at times uncertain negotiations, the Harrogate-born defender is now set to stay with the Toffees.

Yes , but he's been out an age it turned out to be a screw in his leg break was giving him pain so it had to be operated on - no luck for us or Ovideo Doug!
