Would love to seee him give a run at l
I'd say at worst he's 2nd choice now. Going off his most recent displays, I reckon he could possibly displace Baines by mid next season.

*considers changing name to Garbutt's Left Foot*

75 grand a week Leighton Baines, a year into a 4/5 year deal? I don't think so somehow. I fear that deal means Baines will be first choice long past his sell by date but we had to do it given that's the least he'd be on at Man Utd had we accepted their bid last summer. I hope Bobby finds a way of blooding Garbutt but I don't see how he will get a game with Baines and Oviedo ahead of him, even if you had Oviedo on the left wing and Baines in midfield, where does that leave the likes of McCarthy/Besic/Barry in midfield and Mirallas, who plays best on the left wing? I'd sign Garbutt up to a long term deal and loan him out to a Prem club next year, he'd do a job at half the clubs in the league at the minute

baines has had a poor couple of weeks by his standards, but he's still started this season on fire, let's not forget. fair few assists, just a blip atm.

Garbutts not a left winger or midfield player he'd look like a fish out of water.

I feel that next season his best chance of playing is on the left wing. He has been compared to Bale by a few people (not necessarily in terms of ability, but in terms of how he's a left back who's good offensively and might be pushed further up) and I don't see him playing instead of Baines (only when he's rested or injured).

The entire idea of Baines doing what Lahm is doing doesn't seem likely. Martinez might have seen potential for it to work initially, but we've got so many centre mids now that he isn't going to fit in there.

Not seen anyone compare him to Bale myself, but I can't see it happening. Bale's main threat was his outstanding pace, as he developed his stamina his effectiveness and dominance increased. I've not seen Garbutt show any real outstanding pace that marks him out in that regard.

Garbutts in the mould of Baines and Coleman, he needs to be arriving into the box at full speed with the ball in front of him. He hasn't shown anything that indicates he can play up against an opponent and beat him for skill head to head. He's young enough to stick round and get game time as and when Baines needs resting or for minor cup games, the fact that Oviedo hasn't featured at leftback in any of his appearances since his injury indicates to me that Martinez is trying to shoehorn him elsewhere with Garbutt in mind as the backup to Baines and not the other way round.

You still smashed from last night like ?

He knocks about with my cousin who's a good blue and has been open about him seeking a loan for the second half of the season then a new club on a free in the summer where he'll be a guaranteed starter.

So unless much changes over Christmas you can kiss your Garbutt bye bye.

It's going to be awful seeing him leave on a free

Excited. Love Baines and think he'll refind his form but that doesn't stop me from believing we need to do everything possible to keep Garbutt - he's not just looked decent when we've seen him, he's been a standout player on the field.
