But quite a lot of people have also seen him in the youth teams both for everton and England - from what I've seen in those games he isn't that far off Luke Shaw's potential talent.

Whether it develops or if we should do major changes to our squad to accomodate him are different questions.

I personally love Baines and don't much want him to move to midfield whilst he is playing so well in his proper position and think Oviedo also deserves more playing time. But I hope some arrangement can be found to keep Luke.

It is such a shame that Garbutt isn't a right back - Coleman/Garbutt one side and Baines/Oviedo the other would be superb.

You know full well plenty of young players can look outstanding at youth levels, even getting into the England u21's is no indication that they will make the step up to being a good premiership player. Let's alone whether theyll be worth a place ahead of a top class international player.

So you think we should drop or move Baines and so weaken ourselves in the faint hope that Garbutt will eventually be as good as Baines?

The point is who else is as good as Baines or has been? We haven't had a leftback of his quality since the 60's quite why people are so desperate to move him or have him dropped is beyond my comprehension. Especially for a kid with only 4 first team apperances behind in at the age of 21, it's not as if he's set the world alight with his performances either.

1. He has not been given a chance.

2. how old is Stones.

3. How old is Besic.

4. How old is Lukaku.

There have been time when he could have at least been used as sub, e,g. take Barry off, move Baines in and there you have space. There have been posters talking of using Baines to replace Barry. AS for quality of left back I would agree not seen the like since Ray Wilson but do we want to hang and wait another 50 years or get a young LB starting to get in there and gain experience.

You can't possibly mean you want to go another 50 years in the desert of pooriish LBs surely.

Get him to sign a new 5 year deal and promise him you will loan him to another Prem side to get a full year of experience next season and then he can come back as number 1 if he improves. I am sure he would love a year at a promoted side or a team like WBA or Villa.

I have said this sort of thing before to DaveK. Garbutt and RM need to talk, sort this and use a bit of commonsense.

Yes I do know that Dougie, which is why I said that it was a different question how much we adjusted the team to accomodate his potential.

But some kids do break through and oftentimes you need to take a gamble to ensure that they will. You seem to be basically dismissing Garbutt as useless.

As you've pointed out Martinez isn't affraid to play young players and there's also been times when Baines hasn't been fit or could have been rested butMartinez has choose not to. Now given all that, I'd say this indicates to me Martinez doesn't either believe he's ready or doesn't rate him for one reason or another.

Baines is the here and now, Garbutt has hopefully a long and successful career ahead of him either with us or someone else but we can't just play him in the hope he's going to be a top player in the future there needs to be more to it. The fact is if Martinez is prepared to play other youngsters when he can and chooses not do the same with him something's wrong.

Doogie, RM sees him in training so you may be right. WE do not. The only way you and I can judge is if we see him play but that is not happening so we are in no man's land.

Think it's because Garbutt took a couple of good corners.

i realy do think a reason he's not gettin a look in is because we're not confident of him signin a contract

but then it probably means he's even less likely to sign a contract

cant be too upset when there isnt a lot to indicate he's even a prem standard player but its still a shame because he does look a talented player

How have I dismissed him as useless?

Just because I've not declared he should be starting games ahead of Baines doesn't mean I think he's usless, I'm being realistic about his potential. There's a far bigger pool of 'next big things' who do nothing than there is of superstars.

Think the reason he's not getting a look in because our first choice left back is one of the best in Europe, and also Oviedo is better than Garbutt.

Disagree Goat but we do have freedom of speech. Who the hell is Luke?????????

Nar he looks decent, but if hes not willing to wait around for 3 years, well then its prolly best he moves on.

Not that I think for 1 second he should wait around, hes gotta do whats best for him and sadly that appears to be moving on to new pastures, he only has to look at Jose Baxter to see what a great career move that is.
