I remember he mentioned something about tactics against Newcastle not being practiced, but nothing about him not being played
He did say he wanted (after that game) to get more playing time alongside Baines who would be in midfield. He's obviously a very ambitious young man who wants first team football as soon as possible and we can't blame him for that and it's a big decision for him however his path is pretty clear with us and the truth is that all of the other top 6 teams have excellent young left backs playing for them so he won't find it any easier to break into them and could find himself playing for a mid table or lower team for the next 3-5 years. Before the wise cracks - yes I don't see us as a mid table or lower team.

That lad gave his intentions a long time ago.

He signed in 2009. He's now 21. He needs to go somewhere he'll get a game.

As a Blue, if I was him, there's no chance I'd be signing any contract. Certainly not when you see Tony Hibbert put in at Left back ahead of you.
That was one of the worst decisions of the campaign however Martinez has played him in big games since.

Not enough and when he has, he performed only to be promptly dropped.

Baines injured. Oviedo in. Garbutt not even on the bench.

We could have managed him. Gave him games, inflated his ego, contract signed and go from there.

He hasn't played him since Oviedo came back because he hasn't signed a new contract. That's obvious and the correct decision.

If he isn't staying and right now there's no reason to think he would then we can't demotivate Oviedo plus we need to give Oviedo match time to get back from injury.

Agree, but he didn't play when Oviedo was injured (and Baines).

Oviedo also played a lot at LM, we've been awful at LM for a while, we could have been putting Oviedo LM, Baines LM or even Garbutt.

Lots of solutions, what we shouldn't be doing though is allowing a talent to leave for pittance. It's poor foresight.

There's nothing to sort out. He has a contract in front of him and when he signs it he will go on loan for the next 6 months and in the summer we would probably sell Oviedo (who only has 18 months left) and then he would be Baines' backup next season. That which given the amount of injuries this year and Carling Cup games would probably guarantee him a load of playing time. Quite frankly he would probably already be getting those minutes if he had of signed earlier.

He might even see him playing alongside Baines more if Barry is sold in the summer which looks likely.

However for some reason he's stalling. Only time will tell.
So what you seem to be saying is that to keep hold of a player who has everything to prove we need to sell a player as good as Oviedo just to accommodate him?

I don't get that at all. As said, I'd cash in on this feller asap and cut our losses. If he turns out to be the next England LB then so be it. You can't have any player calling the shots at a club like Everton. I mean, who the **** is this lad anyway?

Ideal world would be he signs a long term deal then we get him a good long term loan

ATM id rightly have Baines and Oviedo ahead of him but hes not far off

I'd do it myself but I can't be arsed archiving the thoughts of some divvy who can't keep any discipline.

Can't keep any discipline? Funny, I've not heard anything of the sort. But since you say these tweets/quotes are out there I'll take your word for it.

Weren't his tweets just about a lack of training before the Newcastle match? It could have been down to anything that.

Sounded like a young naive footballer not really appreciating the influence social media can have. If they've got any sense they'd stay away from twitter and the likes in their position, every minute post or innocent comment scrutinised to death.

I'd hate to think of some of the crap I'd have tweeted at 21 without thinking twice about it.

So he's not had discipline issues? Thought as much.

or we could keep both of them, they're both good players so why get rid, especially with Mirallas making noises about going, both will be needed
