Not enough and when he has, he performed only to be promptly dropped.

Baines injured. Oviedo in. Garbutt not even on the bench.

We could have managed him. Gave him games, inflated his ego, contract signed and go from there.

...I wonder if Oviedo has been picked ahead of him because RM knows he's off. You would think there has been talks ongoing for 18 months or so but once nothing has happened with 12 months to go the writing might be on the wall.

So what you seem to be saying is that to keep hold of a player who has everything to prove we need to sell a player as good as Oviedo just to accommodate him?

I don't get that at all. As said, I'd cash in on this feller asap and cut our losses. If he turns out to be the next England LB then so be it. You can't have any player calling the shots at a club like Everton. I mean, who the **** is this lad anyway?

Good job Dave that you are not our manager, with an attitude like that we would end up with no decent players just a load of rubbish like McGeady.

It's not me making the decision to leave him out of the first team squad, it IS the manager.

All I'm doing is to say he should be patient enough to commit and show some faith in a manager who's given him his first team break. Let's have it right here, if he's demanding guarantees over appearances then he's the one being very unreasonable. It's no use blaming anyone else if he leaves, that's down to him.

The pussyfooting around this feller is amazing. Yes he looks a prospect, but the hullabaloo caused about his contract extension is bizarre. you'd think the lad was Roberto Carlos and we needed to beg him to stay. Neat and tidy full backs are ten a penny...and that's all he is. He wants to go? Let him.

In fact Dave, Garbutt got his first big game under our EX in a pre season match if my memory serves me right.

BTW if neat and tidy FBs are ten a penny how come the likes of Shaw cost 20 mill I would add where are those FBs, got any names?

I agree and that's why I have repeatable said that he needs to sign his contract before we do anything. I'm pretty sure the plan was always to sell Oviedo maybe even last summer however his leg break sort of stopped that. The reason why I think that is because Oviedo only has 18 months left and it would have made sense to sell him when he still had 2 years left and for Garbutt to play as Baines' backup this year slowly moving into starting left back while Baines moves into Barry's position. The ages of all concerned are about right. Keeping Oviedo this year has sort of blocked Garbutt and created this situation.

Oviedo is a good backup but I don't think he's quite good enough as a starter.

I'm 50/50 with Oviedo however the other problem with Oviedo is that he's 24. He is at the age where he should be starting and I think he might have actually surprised everyone just how good he is.

At least what this means is if Garbutt doesn't sign we extend Oviedo's contract in the summer and life moves on.

I agree with Davek. In retrospect Martinez probably shouldn't have even gave him the game at Newcastle. It showed a little bit of weakness and instead of getting Garbutt to sign his contract all it looks to have done is make him think he can demand more. I don't see this one being resolved.

You may agree with Dave. But if you were in Garbutt's boots, how would you like the way things are perhaps having to wait another few years before getting a real chance to be selected consistently as first choice. He needs to be playing to show what he can or cannot do, the lack of game time will also impact on his England career. So realistically the way things are at Everton for his career he will have to move.

IN two years time bet Baines will be more or less out of it and we may just have Oveido.

I still hope Garbutt will sign a new contract. If I'd have to choose between Garbutt and Oviedo in the future my choice would be Garbutt. The fact that he's English does it for me. If he doesn't sign, it's reassuring we got a superb back up plan in Oviedo.

Didn't he favourite or retweet whatever the f@ck it is Lineker about give youth a chance and a few drama queens thought that was disrespectful?
