Think defending Stekelenberg is more apologist behaviour to a certain extent. trying to argue good out of a bad situation.

He isn't terrible, but he isn't a number one keeper either. he is solid as a trusty back up but that is about it. Either way he is no better than what we had, which again is a massive mark against the transfer window in the summer.

He absolutely is better than Timothy Howard mate. We still definitely need a long term number 1 though.

I meant he is no better than Robles in all honesty. Some keepers are first choice ones and some aren't. Like Pantillimon, went from back up at city to sunderland and now back up at watford. Stek is the same, he is a good back up but not a first choice keeper, you can't depend on him every week.

Howard was a great keeper for us i believe, but by the end, whether it was down to the coaching or his age, he just stopped doing parts of his game. Sadly for us it was yet another 1 season too many for one of our older players, same position we will be in with barry by the looks of it.

Think Howard had about 4 seasons too many to be honest. But yeah agree on the Stekelenburg back up point.

I would argue Robles is better!

a very sad argument as well haha I hope to god by next summer we do sign a real first choice.
Robles last season had one bad game in front of a worse defence - the stek has the ability to watch the ball hit the net without diving positionally he is poor lets face it we bought him from the mighty Fulham not a young prospect either Southampton's no 2 a poor signing!

I mentioned it in reagrds to a couple of others on another thread but i think it can apply to robles. If Robles that decent of a goalkeeper, or is he seen more favourablely because Howard was so much worse in the end?

Personally never been outright impressed with robles as anything other than a solid uninspiring keeper.

Maybe but the home game v West Ham clean sheet a save that kept us in it plus other good saves so just drop him?????
I was a fan in an era where the England no 2 Gordon west a big money signing was kept out of the team by Andy Rankin on merit!

Maybe you guys should consider Michel Vorm?

Very good keeper who has performed whenever asked for us and I get the impression he is looking to leave because we bought Pau Lopez in the summer which most agree was because Vorm is looking for a first team spot somewhere soon.
