Think he wants someone as genuine competition for the number 1 spot mate, get the feeling Robles isn't that from his perspective and Hart given his words today would be seen as a guaranteed number 1.

Koeman does seem pretty big on making players fight for their spots as a way of getting the best out of them

The only two times they finished out of the European places in Serie A in the last fifteen years were the two years he was their goalkeeper, and he was the biggest reason. I don't want to take anything from what he's done for us so far -- he looks a completely different player (in a limited sample, granted) than he did at Roma. Revisionist history doesn't help anyone, though.

To be fair I recall him being really highly rated circa 2010/2011 and the Netherlands no 1. I picked Roma there as that was around the timeframe I recall, but I never watched much of Roma then so you may well be right.

I wasn't trying to be revisionist though, just saying that unlike say, Robles, Stek was once world class and is still not that old. So the hope is that he can get back to the level he's shown before. Albeit it not for Roma, as I've seemingly, incorrectly stated :)
 
If we get a rip keeper in great, if we don't I'm confident Stekelenburg will be far better than Howard and good enough for the short term. If an obvious number 1 of proven quality is not available is be inclined to let Stek carry on with the confidence he is first choice.

His actual words were Stekelenburg is number one.
He wants a second or third choice and Hart is a number one.

Doesn't sound like he wants too serious competition really.

Aye mate posted when i'd just read a article on the interview, seen the thing now and suggests that really
 

Early days but seems just to get the job done professionally. I've only ever seen two great goalies at Everton in Southall and martyn.I'm hoping stek makes it three.
