Maarten Stekelenburg

I agree that he should've been stronger, but the letter of the law says that yesterday's goal shouldn't have stood - he was fouled.

He is an improvement on what we had in Howard, by miles.

I'm not saying he's the long term answer Dave, but alarm bells are not ringing for me at least. I do think we'll purchase a top level goalie in Jan though, Stekelenburg isn't our long term #1 in my opinion - but he's not a disaster by any stretch.
I doubt January will bring another GK unless one gets injured. He might be another Martyn signing yet, who knows. I doubt it though. From what I've seen of him so far he'll have to be far braver than he seems.

Has there been issues elsewhere I wonder of him being easily knocked off the ball. I doubt it's just happening now.

I think you're right. It's clear to me that Koeman was thinking he'd get Stek in as he likes and trusts him, and pursue a number one afterwards. As Stek's performances were better than expected, it eased the pressure for the number one search a little bit.

He still wants another keeper for sure. I am expecting one in January, and perhaps how Stek plays between now and then will impact the calibre of keeper we're going for.

But if we were trying to sign Joe Hart (and by all accounts we were), why do you think the search for a goalie will not continue?

If Koeman wanted a keeper, surely he sill will and the fact that we went after Hart suggests he doesn't see MS as his #1.

Sorry. He was weak as piss at West Brom when Berahino mugged him off; he was the same yesterday when Negrado did the same.

He's done well since coming in, but am I supposed to turn a blind eye to moments like that when I've been arguing all along that it's precisely because of big moments like that that he is #2 elsewhere and not a #1 and shouldn't be so here?

He wasn't weak. Legs tangled at West Brom and I don't know many goalies that could have a player leaping into them with a run up and keep hold of the ball. Fouls was what they were so it doesn't make him weak. You need to stop looking for problems Dave and are not necessarily there. Every player has a weak spot but also have strong points so we need to look and admire the strong points of players and managers rather than solely point out weaknesses.

Because it's Everton mate...and we dont buy in the summer never mind winter! ;)

So far it's a massive improvement to Howard (of the last two years) and a regular improvement to Robles as well.
Defenders seem pretty secure with him behind them as well.

I agree and if you can't see that yesterday's goal was a total foul ...
He had the ball in his hands.
