Maarten Stekelenburg

No complaints about Stekelenburg whatsoever, has been solid all season. Needs to watch the old discipline though - two yellows already

Perhaps but the danger of a 2nd yellow is surely miniscule for a keeper. Only time you see them get sent off is when they give away a pen as the last man, but I think with the new rule change that won't even happen now, will it?

Though if he accumulates enough yellows for a suspension will he be the first keeper to do so? :D

It's by the by now as it sparked us into the game but what I found annoying was Web and others trying to justify why the ref didn't see the foul then in the same sentence pointing out he was out of position. It was nothing to do with the speed of the play, he was stood in a bad spot plain and simple. It's his job to be able to see what's happening and he couldn't. He didn't do his job so rather then being able to bring that to the board of referees we just have to accept bad decisions. The lack of accountability of referees is an absolute joke.

As I say it makes no difference now but the very fact nothing could be done about it if it did matter is not acceptable in my opinion. Why should they be beyond reproach
Also this type of foul is 99.9% given, as it's obstructing the keeper. Classic Everton this being the 0.01% though.

Remember years ago we had a goal denied by Pienaar against Chelsea because Cech (years ago as I said) tripped over one of our players or something daft, and the ref gave it.

Far from being a 'lunacy' decision, easy one for the ref to get wrong as it was only on replay that it was obvious that Negredo played the man and not the ball, shades of the '84 Cup Final!! Mason evened things up by ignoring Williams high foot for our equaliser, while refs make howlers this was one that you have to get on with. As for our goalie, he's not had too much to do for the last couple of games, he'll be getting rusty if this carries on, but I notice we are linked with Forster again this morning.

I agree with you.

At the ground I thought it was an Andy Gray effort.

An easy mistake for the ref to make as, to the naked eye, it looked like Negredo had headed the ball rather than Stek's arm.

And I also believe if he had disallowed that goal our first goal would have been chalked off as well.

The people whom owe Steks an "apology" are the BT commentator and Steve McManaman.

I played the match TV last night and they were giving him loads and referring to his "mistake".

It was the boys in the studio whom corrected them......the presenter plus Paul Ince and Owen Hargreaves.

It us now universally accepted that the goal should not have stood......I wonder if the commentator and Steve have recanted.

Macca definitely admitted it was a foul after the game when he was in the studio.

Regardless of how 'clear' the Negredo header was an infringement, at West Brom and yesterday he showed a worrying inability to stand up to a robust challenge.

I am not worried Dave and I don't think many others are. You are just once again trying to stir the pot and put doubts in peoples minds. A foul is a foul and both were fouls so what you are saying is we should be worried if he is fouled in future because it could lead to a goal. Think that's obvious Dave.

Sorry. He was weak as piss at West Brom when Berahino mugged him off; he was the same yesterday when Negrado did the same.

He's done well since coming in, but am I supposed to turn a blind eye to moments like that when I've been arguing all along that it's precisely because of big moments like that that he is #2 elsewhere and not a #1 and shouldn't be so here?

I'm not for one moment suggesting he is the answer to all of our goalkeeping problems mate, and yes some things he could've done better, but he hardly looks like a man who couldn't get a game at Fulham does he?

He's not going to stop me dreaming of big Nev at night, but he's done better than I thought he would, I assumed most thought the same.

Imagine that was the difference yesterday mate. That we didn't hit back and win? (Or at WBA for that matter). Do you think he'd be getting the benefit?

As others have said, this defence is working very well right now; we dont commit to attack in great numbers and any GK should be just mopping up behind that shield. When a bread and butter cross like those two come in I expect them to be dealt with.

I agree that he should've been stronger, but the letter of the law says that yesterday's goal shouldn't have stood - he was fouled.

He is an improvement on what we had in Howard, by miles.

I'm not saying he's the long term answer Dave, but alarm bells are not ringing for me at least. I do think we'll purchase a top level goalie in Jan though, Stekelenburg isn't our long term #1 in my opinion - but he's not a disaster by any stretch.
