Man City fan lets rip...

They have been praised yes, but that domestic treble season didn't get half as much attention as it should have, there was certainly more fuss about how the RS just missed out on the top spot but won the CL that year

That unprecedented treble really didn't get the attention it deserved.

I'm sure one media outlet wanted the League Runners-Up to receive a trophy that season because of how they performed. I feel like I'm lying typing that because of the absurdity but I'm convinced it was the case.

We saw it ourselves last week when Richarlison's transfer fee was mentioned in the description of his goal, yet not the fee of the goalkeeper he scored past.

It'd be the same for almost all clubs outside the RS and Man United. It's annoying but it's best to concentrate on your club's own happy times. I pay as little attention to the media as possible, it's not news it's agenda signalling.

Not anything new,I very rarely read UK newspapers now but years ago the Daily Mirror was basically an extension of the Man U match day programme.

He’s not wrong is he.

To be fair, we’ve been saying it for years.

BT Sport is borderline unwatchable with commantary on.
Absolutely awful channel. I did like it when they had a small box at the bottom left showing live action so we got to see the goal celebration, all while the goal was replayed, but that’s it. It’s a painful watch and I’m suprised the channel still exists all after Premier Sports and the U.K. Setanta were all short lived.

Don’t even get me started on their “Get the January sale!” adverts, all while a Billie Ellish instrumental plays.

Man City’s achievements have been ignored in comparison to almost every other team. Whenever United win the Charity Shield, it’s “I wonder if they have any space in their trophy cabinet?”, but when City win it, it’s just commentary that has a so-so vibe about it.

People in the media on a daily basis get players names wrong, they get the clubs players played for before wrong, they get positions wrong, dominant feet wrong, records wrong, clubs signings wrong, nationalities wrong, they’ll even confuse two totally different players stood there with totally different numbers on their back. Fact is a lot of casual football fans who have their own day job know more about football than them, they just can’t blag the fake “sources” that someone attached to the industry can.

These people either weren’t good at football so they became hacks or were good at football but they were so thick that they couldn’t coach or manage, so they did the easy thing and became pundits for outlets that have been reporting the normal news for hundreds of years and still can’t get that right. It also just so happens that most of them have connections to Liverpool which tells you all you have to know about that football club and their following.

I don’t get why people get so annoyed at and expect so much from an entity that is literally built on shiteness.

Hi looses all credibility when he says they are not state run and instead owned by an "individal" - it is that very brainwashing that gets them into this mess.

my two cents for what its worth....

I should say from the outset, i've always had a soft spot for Man City, I was bright to Maine Road as a kid and was delighted to see them get back into top flight football, but I was not a fan to the take over and the transition the club went through as a result. They lost a lot of their fans, who rightly questioned the deal and with that the soul of the club was damaged although clear not eradicated, which is great for the club and new owners.

Their achievements since have been incredible, they have invested strategically and have 5 leagues to show for it, but it doesnt change the fact that they have achieved this through financial doping, they have accepted their guilt and paid the fines (twice now), they did their deal with the devil (which is fine) but the consequence of it is the asterix beside any if their achievements.

Their reality is the media, the public in general and the football fraternity, will never give them the credit they deserve, but that's the trade off they have for the way they have gained their success, they are a showpony for an arab state & they are treated that way, their wins will be forgotten by history, we dont see Premier league years when they win leagues and their biggest moment "Aguerooooo" is remembered as much for costing United is a league as it is City's win.

Where for me this gets interesting is the players, they also dont get recognition outside the club, that again some of them deserve, David silva should be talked about like Scholes, Lampard etc, he is not. De Bruyne doesnt get the credit her deserves, again this is the trade off for representing an Arab state.

I mentioned in another thread recently the "emthyhad" jibes as the epitome of the challange that city have, the owners are desperate to portray an institution like Barca or United, but the reality is they have resorted to falsifying their gate numbers (Source - GMP reports) to give themselves some credibility, it's a desperate move from an ownership, who offer "influencers" free admission in exchange for instagram posts.

Ultimately, your man is right, there is apathy towards them, the media aren't bothered, because they cant get ratings when they are on, the papers wont do an 8 page pull out because it wont sell and history will forget their achievements or at a minimum belittle them, but that is the price of dancing with the devil the have. I wouldnt want to see us go the same route, even if it it meant 5 titles in 10 years.

Fair post mate but a couple of questions if I may.

Firstly what is "financial doping" and can you explain how it differs from "spending money"?

Also what are these awful consequences of them spending money in football, to football? And how do these differ from say Chelsea, Manchester United, Liverpool, Blackburn, Everton, Arsenal etc who all had spells spending such money?

As a point of order, once their alleged offences were tried in an impartial court, they were cleared of all wrongdoing. But either which way, I'd be interested in your thoughts in the above 2. I'm open to persuasion, but never heard massively compelling evidence.

I do wonder if part of it is because City have, relatively quickly, been consistently successful off the investments made. Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal and even us more recently have chucked significant cash at players and managers. Yet haven't got anywhere near City's success.

Its gotta rankle, particularlyfor the clubs who think success is their right. Its not City's fault Utd and Liverpool have brought / recruited badly for large periods of time over the last decade. Much of it is distraction to point blame from the failings of the clubs the media sycophants support ordependon to make cash.

Man City were in league 2 (1) 20 years ago. They got a free stadium because of the commonwealth games and basically won the lottery. I know 3 City fans, 2 I've known since the 90s from football and 1 I work with. The two I've know for years openly admit they won the lottery whereas mr "we are massive" is a complete head case and genuinely thinks Man City are some sort of global royalty. I used to cheat at Championship Manager on my PC when I was a kid, you could do this "bid accepted" then go in after and change the bid to 100 million. I still never won the league but I put that down to me being a complete muppet and focusing too hard on the fact I could never sign Maldini no matter how much I tried.

City and Chelsea are a bad example of the new game. I've celebrated 80th minute equalisers against West Ham more than they could ever fathom what it feels like to be a football fan.

In short, sod city, sod chelsea and sod anyone who thinks winning by cheating is ever acceptable.

Our owners are probably more than capable of rattling that amount of money about but instead, sit back, bring in a system and the best manager in Europe, sort the stadium out and in 10 years it will be a hard work deserved package. Flash in a pan titles don't mean anything. Elon Musk could buy Ayr tomorrow and make them champions of Europe in 5 years if he really wanted too.

There is clearly significant bias in the media towards man utd, Liverpool, arsenal and to a lesser extent spurs (not sure why on spurs?).

They are the clubs with significant national support due to their success coinciding with periods of increased popularity of football.

Simple.

Clubs that have a flash in the pan season are generally well reported on by the media, see Leicester, villa and leeds(?) this year, and current trend in patting West ham on the back.

Get a team genuinely threatening the top 4 or heaven forbid the title on a regular basis and the media become vociferous in their attacks, see man City and to a degree ourselves as we build something sustainable.

That is it.

Well its not like we didn't know already but it proves that if you want to be successful then you have to spend money.
Look at that 'spending' table it almost resembles the league table for 95% of the time and all the trophies over that period have been shared out between the teams who have spent the most. The same teams fighting for Europe and same teams fighting relegation.

Unfortunately that's modern day football. It sucks but it is what it is.
