Are we completely incapable to put two good half seasons together? Really dont think we have played well in the whole of 2013!

We are desperately missing a midfield enforcer, someone to win the ball as teams seem to win every midfield battle against us. Missing out on Fer was a big loss

COYB

we got beat by the better team that played with passion and to the right game plan, no discrace in that, we tried ,but the team looked tired and have done for ages, the squad is to small and we all know it and deep down the players and manager know it as well, we should have added in the window or at the start of the season if we were really wanted to give it ago, got a feeling its going to be 6th or 7th rather than top four for us this season.

Quite a flat game. It was hard to pick a Man of the Match from either side. We started the game off as if we were scared of them and only played anywhere near our usual level for a 10 minute spell in the first half. Pretty much our whole defence was culpable for the first goal. Baines didn't get off the ground to challenge Valencia, Heitinga got too tight, Neville was too far away to offer cover and Jags didn't marshall his team mates better. For the second goal it seemed like Heitinga was the only one playing for offside.

They didn't really cause us many problems overall though. Whether that was because we contained them or whether they were able to win the match in first gear is the question. We didn't make life uncomfortable enough for them either. We were too slow getting forward and there were no options for Howard to launch a quick counter-attack because we had everybody back for set pieces. Very often they had 8 defenders crowding out our 3 forwards and we didn't have anyone on the edge of the box.

I'd have thought that Moyes might have tried switching Anichebe out wide and Pienaar into the middle when he brought Jelavic on or that he would have chosen Oviedo over Naismith to try and create something. They had Jones marking Fellaini. The obvious thing to do would be to switch him with Osman to see whether Jones stayed with his man and whether it drew him out from in front of their back four. I imagine that the idea of switching Mirallas and Pienaar was to expose Rafael's defensive frailties as well as tracking Evra's runs. It didn't really work though.

Maybe the international fixtures affected us more than them? We didn't seem up for the fight.

Forgive me if this has already been covered, but did anyone see what happened to that poor fella in the corner of the crowd in our end, near the United fans, near the end of the first half?

It was hard to see because everyone stood up, but he seemed to collapse, and his mates were screaming for help from the paramedics/stewards/St Johns. They seemed a bit slow getting to him because I think they initially thought it was scallies taking the piss but it really wasn't. The poor fella ended up stretchered out. It caused quite a bit of commotion. Anyone sat a bit closer see what went on?

Guttered today. Did not go to the game but was in Manchester watching the game with United and City friends :(

I thought we did well in the first half and looked to be giving them a good fight even though they scored early. But in the second half we started to look tired and out of options. I don't agree we should feel sorry for ourselves that Distain was part of our woes and it was the reason we lost. It was one player.

We have two very good players with Fellaini and Baines. Who could get in to any of the top four and others on their day who can win games when playing at their best such as Mirallas. We should have been able to cope a little better than what we did without Distain.

We just was not clinical enough in the first half which has been our problem all season and I am struggling to understand why we where very lacklustre in the second half.

Lol it was not good watching this game in Manchester today I had United fans jumping up and down saying we were crap and City fans saying we were rubbish - plus other things... :(. Not doing that again.

Just watched it back and we weren't actually that bad. There were a couple of occassions in the first half that had the ball broken kindly for us around the box we could have scored a couple. Second half was a damp squib because United weren't going to make the same mistake they did last year and completely killed the game and we got tired/devoid of ideas.

Big month ahead of us now - hopefully two wins in the cup and 6 points against Norwich & Reading and this forum will be a happy place again!

Just got back to London lads, I have to say I'm disappointed both with the result and with the performance.

There was little pressure from us, we gave them far too much space in midfield. A surprising lack of fight and character to take the game to them.

I think a lack of pace was exposed too, we couldn't play the ball in behind. Ah well, it'll take a miracle now for us to claw our way back into contention for 4th and avoid a battle for 6th.

Heitinga was fully at fault for the first goal, and partly at fault for the second (mainly Neville). He definitely made a **** effort of clearing it

You could also argue that Neville was partly at fault for the 1st as he let Giggs get away from him couldn't get back to him quickly enough.

My thoughts exactly. There are too many on here who expect us to be world-beaters. United showed us a lot of respect after their last two games against us, and did a good job of sitting deep and not allowing us any space to cause them problems.

We were playing the champions-elect, let's write this one off and look ahead to the Oldham game.

I don't actually think Johnny was as bad as he has been the season. He was still bad but there was an improvement. The goals were conceded by sloppy defending from the entire back four, not just Johnny.

I thought we were horrendously unlucky with their second goal; killed the game off. at least three times we tried to play the offside trap first half and they were onside, which ultimately cost us.

I don't even know what to say. I feel we're on such a fine thread, moyes could go, felli could go, baines could go and then next season we're in the same boat as Aston Villa.......and I'm a positive blue
