Breakfast should be your biggest meal of the day.

No snacking, and strictly 3 meals a day.

Walking and swimming are great activities to lose weight, but start under medical advice.

I'd allow one slight "cheat" meal in the week, maybe at the weekend, but don't go overboard.

The challenge with dieting is that is has to be sustainable for the long-term.

If it is not, then its difficult to stay motivated and you cannot live in a constant deprivation mode.

Comes down to the individual though, I regularly skip breakfast as that works best for me as I can have more substantial meals later in the day.

I used to skip breakfast, and it's not a meal I have a great deal of personal enthusiasm for, but in recent years and since hitting my 40s, I insist on having it before I go to work and start the day. I'm certain I don't have the need / hunger for bigger meal portions for lunch and dinner as a result. And we need the energy, of course.

There is research to suggest that without breakfast you'll eat more than would have been intended in later meals, and you say this yourself. For someone trying to lose weight, that can have implications on total calorie intake and metabolic rate, with the latter often being slower later in the day.

Your right, it does depend on what works for the individual though.

The studies are observational and cannot demonstrate causation.
In fact studies I've seen show that people who skip breakfast seem to have simar Caloric intake to those who have it.
