Dont be so sure of it, he can try and see it out all he likes but when the time comes to have the rug pulled from under his feet he wont have a say in the matter, just like Walter didn't, hopfuly its just around the corner so we can get back to being a side that can compete for the top 8.
Moyes had a chance to see out his contract if he wished and he choose not to, but since Martinez is nowhere near as good as him at Premier League management he wont be offered the same luxury, not at this clubs expense anyway.
Smith? FFS that feller was sacked because we were dancing on top of the trap door into the Championship. There's no parallel to be had there.

And who is pulling the rug on Martinez, specifically?

No manager of this club is getting sacked for finishing midtable. It's fantasy island stuff to think otherwise.

I'm baffled why people actually think we'd sack a manager half-way through a season which has seen us play some of the best football we have in years.

Yes, the results haven't been there as of late, but I'm confident that will not continue.

And people also seem to think sacking a manager that has now brought together or at least developed half if not most of this squad would then have a positive effect on all the young players we have.

And finally, who, realistically, are we going to get to replace him?

Madness. Just another side-effect of this instant success or out culture that has developed due to the monopolisation of the British game.

Played the best football in years? You seen the results over the past 2 seasons? Don't be soft mate, best for "fans of the game" to watch on TV but not best for Evertonians.
Good managers from Europa will be crying out to get to the Premiership next season with all the money we have at our disposal, you are forgetting if we can stay up we will be one of the richest clubs in the world in the summer, who realistically wouldn't want to manage a side in that position.

As for the effect on the youngesters you only have to look at John Stones to see the negative effect Martinez is having.

I think we need to score a goal, preferably the first. A 3-1 lead will give us a cushion and something to work with. A goal at any time is probably going to be needed as we're not likely to win the match and they'll probably score.

Our results have been poor but there's no real pattern to them. OK the 2-3 and 3-4 result have indicated very poor defending, but we've had 0-0's against Spurs and City and the only goal against Swansea was an og, and we missed a lot of chances.

I'm not confident, but I still think we have a realistic chance.

City aren't playing well at the moment, and as long as we defend properly as a unit we should be seeing this through to at least extra time.

Hope we don't drop as deep as we did in the second half of the league game a couple of weeks ago, got to the point where we couldn't even mount a counter attack. Asking for far too much trouble when that happens.

The fickle nature of football fandom.

No one in charge is listening to them, that's why you have to smile when you see absolute comments like "he's gone if we don't get to that cup final and win it".

They're ridiculous. I can't take them seriously. Who's taking any notice to their feet stamping in the club? Nobody.

It's a by-product of the social media age.

Everybody thinks their opinion matters and if they put it on twitter or a forum then it's going to happen - fact.

Everybody is entitled to an opinion of course, but yours, mine and everybody else's really matters very little in the grand scheme of things i suppose.

It's good to have debate though, and overall i'd say today has been a lot more balanced as people have calmed down and realised, yeh, we played badly on Sunday, but we've played worse before and we were unlucky.

I'm not saying the league form isn't a concern - as it clearly is because we can't turn this positive football we're playing to results - and for me that is mainly down to Martinez' refusal to drop Howard, for whatever reason.

We've got a big game tomorrow and if it doesn't go as we all hope there will be over-reaction and more calls for Martinez to be sacked... despite getting us to our first semi-final in 7 years and having to go up against one of the best and most expensively assembled teams in Europe...

But yeh, tomorrow or bust...

We just need to score, let's hope Mangala is fit!

I'll be as peed off as anybody mate if we don't go through. Winning some silver would be great.

Don't confuse my feelings for Everton with my views on the forums broken record.

Fair enough, and of course you will be, as we all would be if we don't go through.

Dave has his views just as I have mine and you have yours though - personally I agree with him in this instance.

It's no big deal to get our team on the pitch scoring goals when you look at the talent at at our disposal. Week by week it looks more and more like a good squad of players with little tactical awareness or ability to win games of football.

I don't want him sacked in the middle of the season but if we get to May and it's still following the same course we're on now then I'll be made up to see him leave. Obviously I want a good replacement, but there's not many managers out there I could honestly say would be doing worse with our squad.

So you think a carling cup immortalises a manager too? Maybe we will have a statue built alongside Dixie's?

We are playing some fantastic stuff, and when we get it right we are unplayable. We've got four of the most exciting prospects in Europe at the heart of our team.

We are closer to top six than the relegation zone, and things would look very different if we hadn't have been on the end of some very bad refereeing decisions.

Oh Dave!!

I'm putting this down to a bet/dare in the upgraded furom as you was never this stupid/nieve before.

You're posts this season have been very bizzaro/matt Damon ish.

60 points lol.

It's been a long time, anyone who now wins a major cup becomes our most successful manager for 25 years.

It's all about winning cups, if he wins 1, he goes down in history here.

We'll see how we do tomorrow mate, but I'm willing to wager that we will look a lot more confident at the back with Joel in net.

That is the main decision with Martinez that I cannot forgive him for. The bad luck, the chances the attacking players have failed to put away (e.g. Norwich, Swansea, Palace) you can't lay at his feet.

What you can blame him for is his insistence that Howard is still up to the job. Do I think he should be sacked for it? No.

Will he be sacked anyway? No, he won't. So the point is mute. He's going nowhere this season, and I reckon he'll still be here this time next year as well.
