Most feel that way. But you cant live in fear of these matches turning up.

Personally I think of it as an opportunity to lay a few ghosts to rest. If we dont do it, then it's one more ghost to lay to rest next time.

The best things never come easily. There's always a massive struggle for it.

If you wish to win cups then you should expect to play tough opposition and maybe run into old foes, if we are to beat Liverpool then i hope it is in a final were they turn up having won the cup before a ball is kicked.

They have beat us in a cup semi at wembley and most have seen a dominant liverpool team in the past so its nothing new to me, doesnt mean it doesnt hurt though.

Got to be in it to win it as they say, tonight is set up for a martinez counter attacking masterclass..........

Then defeat to Newcastle next week the catalan clown (come at me bro)

Sod it, I'm so fking down at the moment with Everton that I can't see us getting through tonight and if we do I just know that we're going to lose against that shower, I don't know if I can take in anymore to be honest.

I'm not saying Pienaar was rattling the goal, or scored loads, or even had a 10/10 performance, but IMO he looked like he wanted it more than others, and for the first time in a while we were able to move the ball down our left side. If we keep doing that, inevitably it'll open up the center backs as they're forced to move over to cover either full back, and in turn hopefully produce more room for Rom... All year we've needed an attacking left sided presence, and i hope that Pienaar will bring that (even if its only 45-60mins) given our current squad's status

Neither Cleverley nor Pienaar will stop their full backs bombing up the wing if he wants to... but IMO, with Pienaar there, and the pace and determination he's showed to not only want the ball but also to do something with it, might at least put a doubt in the full backs mind about not wanting to drift to far forward.

Lets face it though, at the moment the same starting 11 could play two consecutive games, but have completely polar performances!! until that's sorted, who does or doesn't play comes second fiddle

Interesting post that. Is Baines fit to start, too?

If so, Pienaar and him link up well which could give us options down the left too. Neither Mirallas nor Clev and certainly not Kone has shone in that position for me, KM probably best of the three. Cleverly for me is wee bit of a jack of all trades and a master of few of the positions he's played in - though I bow to the greater swell on this forum that say he offers more and it was a very good header that dug us out of ANOTHER otherwise mediocre showing at Newcastle.

So yes - Peanut for me, too. I never forgot the Everton vs Chelsea 2-0 at Goodison where Pienaar shone against a more physical midfield... on his day he can pick passes and move play around which'll may help soak up time and push City around.

Them being in the final has made me more relaxed about this game. If it was Stoke then I'd be fuming if we lost tonight, but at least if we do lose we can avoid the kopite humiliation. There's no way we'll beat them whereas I reckon City will easily.

We're better than the RS on paper and I am desperate like everyone to see us lift a trophy, but they are the only team I truly believe we cannot beat. They're in bed with the devil and we have the mental fortitude of a rich tea biscuit in a cup of tea. It's a horrible combination.

The early goal catches the worm tonight, so to speak.

Let me break that down:

- They score early, they'll smash us and we're out
- We score early and we have an excellent chance to go through. One more after that - even a fluke goal, own goal, who cares - and it's virtually job done and we're in the final

Match day finally. Proud to be just one of our finest 8,000+ tonight. One certainty - We'll play our part and do our lads proud. I'm sure when they hear the noise we make our lads will give it all and want it as much as we do.

Get stuck in.

Not only am I 'WOOL' to your locals but I am now an expat too. LOVE watching Everton though and get to GP when back home to see family. GET STUCK IN, you guys make a decent racket on the telly, it's awesome!

I remember the cup semi 08 and the final 09 under Moyes and being gutted not for the loss but the fact we gave them too much respect and went out having not had a go. I also remember the Cup semi in 05 and showing Spurs absolutely no respect what so ever. At least Martinez had a go in the first leg and were unlucky no to take a 2 goal lead to the emptiad. We need to roar the boys on for 90 mins tonight as this ones going to the wire.

What Starting line up would you play? I'm not sure who I want at centre half as I reckon Funes would be able to contain Aguero, but with Aguero on top form, I think it could be John Stones night to prove himself as a top defender

If we get to the final we have a manager who can roll out a game plan for the occasion and players easily good enough to win a trophy, regardless of any opposition to be found in the PL. Is there baggage that goes with the game? Yes. But that's part of the glory. The players know they get elevated to a status only equalled by the 80s teams who never managed to achieve a cup win against that lot.

It's a hell of an incentive for a 90 minute one off match. Immortality.

But as you say, we need to get there yet.
