Pished alot of money up the wall this summer

Delph - awful - £8 million

Iwobi - wont last long here - £27 million (rising to £34 mil)

Kean - underwhelming so far - £27 million

Gbamin - unlucky in fairness so TBD - £25 million

Gomes - good but inconsistent - £22 million

Lossl - garbage - Free

Sidibe - inconsistent but been okay

All in all £109 million+ whatever Sidibe's loan fee is has been largely wasted.

Sorry, but 74 million of that is on 3 players. 2 of which have been injured long term, and one who is an investment for the future, and is 19 years old. None of that money can be classed as wasted as none of them have had a chance to prove it was worth it or if it was wasted yet.

Iwobi and delph I agree.

Sidibe's loan fee largely wasted ? Nonsense mate.
You really need to give Kean a chance. Ancelotti wanted to sign him for Napoli !
Gbamin and Gomes injured for ages.
So how much do you calculate has been wasted ?
Compare that to Walsh et al

Keep feeding the troll.
He will stop posting then!!

I hope you're not refering to me there sport.

I seem to remember similar folk calling me similiar for pointing out last season a certain Portugese manager of ours wasn't or ever would be good enough and was laughed at and told "transition season" "bad luck" "you're an RS, Troll" etc etc.

If you think Brands has done a good job sound you're entitled to your opinion as am I - but dont try pretend anyone who has reservations over him so far having spent around £200 million in 2 seasons and no business in either January windows despite obvious gaping weaknesses in key positions is deluded or a troll - he has alot to prove this upcoming window.

Correct me if I am wrong, but under Steve Walsh and Koeman, when we spent £45m on Sigurdsson, that was a bigger fee than Liverpool had ever shelled out. Us never in the champions league, no trophies, for years, spent £45m on him which is more than the RS and many other clubs had. We made it known we had money and were willing to spend big - like Pickford, Bolasie, and now clubs hold us to ransom. We had no problem giving Man Utd their money back on a failed player in Schneiderlin. Net Brands has spent around £90m. And he had to replace players that wanted to leave like Gana and Lookman. You can't replace players every time with cheap bargains. Our pool was limited because we are not in Europe and haven't been winning trophies. Now we have players like Digne and Richarlison, a manager like Ancelotti, and his job should get easier. Brands can't force signings onto managers in the PL, he is no coach he can only oversee the network within the club and network of scouts and agents, and work as an advisor, helper, the idea that he is solely responsible for the players that come here is nonsense. I doubt he has the power to sack or hire a manager either. He is there to help the manager and help Moshiri and the board, putting all the blame on him is stupid.

Your making him sound like the old guys who stand outside Walmart’s in the US.
They are called Greeters/Helpers.
They don’t have a defined role, just say hello and help people.

No mate.
He is supposed to oversee managerial/staff appointments.
He organises/overseas player transfers.
He is the link between the players/management staff and the board.

He hasn’t overseen managerial appointments or sackings and his handful of transfers have been completely uninspiring,

If Silva hadn't been at Everton there's no way Richarlison would have been signed by Brands. NONE.

A fee of £40 million was agreed, but it was a tough negotiation.

“We thought it would be a very difficult one because of the history of the clubs,” said Brands.

“I think with the situation with Watford, we had to pay a little but more. I think maybe the market value was a little bit lower but, at the end, we are happy with him. We think he can be very special. He has a lot of speed, the capability to work; he is strong, he is tall. There are a lot of qualities for all the competitions in Europe. They are important qualities.

“We (Brands and Silva) were both convinced about that player but we thought it would not be possible. I knew him before he went to Watford.”

When Brands was working for PSV Eindhoven, he once felt he was competing with rivals Ajax for Richarlison.

“I liked him at that moment already. Ajax went for (David) Neres at that time and I was happy they did that, rather than getting Richarlison.”

TL;DR - We’re gonna be just fine.

I’m a big fan of Brands and I’m a big fan of the DoF model but only when it is utilised correctly. I understand the frustrations with some on his transfer business or the business he didn’t do but I think we need to take a few steps back and assess the situation and the bigger picture.

For a DoF to be successful there needs to be a symbiotic relationship between him and the manager but there also needs to be a clear long term plan in place. In my opinion Brands never wanted Silva but Moshiri had the say in that and we’re still paying the price for that and for the Koeman/Walsh era. We currently have a squad assembled to meet the needs of about 3 managers who all play a different style of football which is just a horrid situation to be in.

I honestly believe if we’d have been fortunate enough to be able to bring Ancelotti in when Brands joined our squad would be in much better shape. I think it was actually a really shrewd move holding out on transfers this January because I think they’d have only been short-term solutions that would become a problem further down the line. We forget Ancelotti has only been here 6 weeks ish and his relationship with Brands is at its nascent. They will both still be learning the sort of player required going forward and I don’t think the thorough scouting will have been in place for a manager brought in a couple of weeks before a window opens.

The way I see a DoF working is that he comes into a club alongside a long-term manager who then decides the sort of playstyle and player profile he wants. The DoF then has a clear idea of what to buy/grow to help the manager be successful. If we need a left-back then we’ll have a list of left-back profiles to go for or we look to the academy. If the academy needs a left-back and there’s nothing coming though the age group below: sign a left-back for the academy. The reason them lot, regrettably, work so well is because Klopp enforced 4-3-3 and he is strict in the profile of player he wants. They buy carbon copy replacements and they grow carbon copy replacements in the academy whilst selling those that will never fit Klopp’s plan.

I believe this Summer is going to be the complete wiping of the slate with a lot of players out of contract and a lot that are on their last year. Ancelotti will have had 6 months to imprint his style and Brands will have had 6 months to look for players that fit this style. The likes of Iwobi would not have been bought last year if Ancelotti was in charge as they don’t really fit his system.

It’s a shame the Euros fall when they do but I’m confident we will have a prosperous summer and a great 2020/21 season.

"Shrewd".

Lol.

He has a set policy of not buying in January, apparently regardless of circumstances.

Seemingly so. In 10 years across us and PSV he’s signed 4 players in January at a total cost of €2.2m. And of those 4, 2 were on loan and one was free.
