What is so fraudulent about a fella we plucked out of the Argentinean leagues for under 10m and is on modest wages?

No, a fraud is Schneiderlin. Gives nothing, doesn't try and sucks 120k a week out of the club.

At the very worst Mori is good enough as fourth choice. The idea that we should enter a season with 3 new CBs and Holgate is absurd. We have about 7 players who must depart before we try get rid of someone who some fans are annoyed with over a red card some years ago.

We finished 8th this year, let's be more realistic for just a moment. Out of 12 clubs who finished beneath us, perhaps 2 are more highly rated than Mori
Some good points here.

I've seen people post lists of 15+ players they want cleared out of the club on a few occasions now.
I understand the sentiment and don't necessarily disagree, but the reality of the matter is that clearing such a large amount of players out of the team is very difficult.

You have to ensure that you have replacements incoming and having any sort of continuity and 'gel' in the squad becomes a nightmare.

Last season was a shambles that has set us back a fair bit and I expect it will take a damn sight longer than 1 transfer window to fix.

If we want to show signs of moving forward then we can’t be keeping League 2 players even as backup. That’s what everyone said when we signed him “oh he’ll never play, he’s just a cheap backup”, and then he ended up playing 28 games and causing our eyeballs irreversible damage.
We have legitimate list cloggers that need moved on before we start focusing on guys like Martina. You can't move up as a football club if you have an oversized squad, which is way overpaid. It doesn't work.

Mori isn't league 2 quality ffs, he is an Argentine international who prior to his injury was being looked at by Barcelona, Napoli and Milan clubs. Martina (maybe...at a stretch) but would probably start at half the teams in the Championship.

You first need to be financially viable before you have the option Bortwick Johnson to become your third choice. Hence Martina not being a concern.

I'm not talking about Mori, I'm on about Martina. But yeah, I know there are about 12 players we realistically need to ship out, 3 of them are out on loan and get easily forgotten about (Mirallas, Sandro and Besic). However, what is the point keeping Martina around when really he shouldn't be playing a second of any game in any competition next season? If we have a decent window, we'll have a new starting left back with Baines as back up, Coleman as first choice right back with Kenny and Holgate there, maybe even a new young right back if we can get one. Martina is a waste of space and a waste of a wage, he should definitely be on the "to sell" list. Brands will take one look at him and be offering him out to Dutch 3rd division teams for £40k.

Funnily enough, I`ve just had a conversation with a neighbour, who is an very well respected sports journo ( no names ), about this very subject. (@Connor knows who he is )

He said that as far as the footy journo`s are concerned, Silva is 100% the next manager, like it or not.

He has direct access to the club.

There is no one else in the running.

Sorry to disappoint.

Ps - I`m not trying to usurp @Joey66 as number one ITK ;)
It’s @Connor who you’re talking about isn’t it, I know he has ties with the club.
I won’t be disappointed if it is Silva. He just wouldn’t be my 1st 2nd or even 3rd choice, in fact he wouldn’t be on my list. But if Brands wants him then he must see something and I’d trust his judgement over my own regarding football and Managers. If it’s Silva I will back him for sure.

hes a faux hard man who just kicks people and passes to the opposition, useless. hopefully can flog him to italy or spain for a profit.
we dont need 3 new centrebacks, 1 quality one will do. we have no european football next season and feeney, gibson or 1 or 2 other of our promising centrebacks can be given game time if necessary.
what does your last sentence even mean?
Lascelles. The one player I'd swap for Mori for clubs who finished below us.

And yes, as a backup Mori is at worst fine. At best a starter. Gibson and Feeney ain't ready yet. You need to solidify in cases of injury.

Throwing a youngster into the deep end, only causes harm.

There's a place for Mori next year. Again - strongest, quickest and best in the air we've got. Partner him with someone who can play a pass (he can't). I.e Holgate. Don't buy into the throws tackles around blah blah blah, something like 13 teams had more possession then we did, yet Jags and Keane fouled more per minute of game time. Poor comparison as they played far more, but still shows its utter nonsense.

And again, he is an Argentinian international, and before injury was touted by Barcelona for crying out loud.

It`s not @Connor mate, my neighbour is one of the longest serving in the game at the mo ;)

Who takes Martina? Seriously... There is just no point worrying about him. What if Coleman missed a month, then what? Sure, Holgate can fill in but if he is solidified at CB, why rob Peter to pay Paul? Nobody has even suggested a new backup RB anywhere because it isn't a primary concern.

At this point in time both for football and financial reasons keeping Martina wouldn't hurt. But keeping Rooney, Mirallas, Schneiderlin, William's, (Sandro?), (Klaassen?) certainly would.

At the time I could see the logic in getting Walsh in as DoF - he did a good job at Leicester in terms of getting players in... but that was it. I was excited, especially when we started our summer spending but I’m hindsight I was naive in not really knowing what being a DoF entailed and he had no experience of it.

Getting Brands in feels different. An actual DoF with pedigree and 10 years(?) experience is exciting, let’s hope he performs.

If Coleman got injured there's already about 3 players I'd play right back before Martina because he's a disaster. I'm not saying buying a new backup right back is a concern, and I agree Martina isn't a concern if you can guarantee he won't ever play a game. But then again what's the point paying someone who you're not going to play no matter what? I'd just rather we paid him up and told him to go away tbh, further negating the risk that he'll end up on the pitch at some point in the future.

Mmmmm. A very well respected sports journo. Lives in Woolton. No. You've got me there mate.

Apologies if already mentioned, but just reading before that we wanted him before Walsh turned up and spunked the family fortune on magic beans.
What a kick in the nads that is...
