2019/20 Marcel Brands

Chelsea looked at brands and said no.
And you know that how?

The job at Chelsea was not a DoF like he does at PSV. The fact that Chelsea's chief scout is temporarily covering the outgoing Emenalo's duties points to this. As does the fact that Emenalo left Chelsea to take up a proper DoF role at Monaco, a club well below Chelsea in stature.

The more likely reason that Chelsea didn't pursue their interest is that Brands wasn't interested in a role that gave him less autonomy.

Don't get me wrong, the jury is out on Brands and whoever the new manager will be, but to think that it isn't an upgrade on who they're replacing, which is obviously your position or you wouldn't continue defending your post, is quite simply laughable.

Walsh was a punt; putting him into a role in which he had zero experience was a gamble, and it backfired badly. Since he's been there the club has had zero strategy or direction resulting in us effectively pissing £200m up the wall in transfers.

Some good points here.

I've seen people post lists of 15+ players they want cleared out of the club on a few occasions now.
I understand the sentiment and don't necessarily disagree, but the reality of the matter is that clearing such a large amount of players out of the team is very difficult.

You have to ensure that you have replacements incoming and having any sort of continuity and 'gel' in the squad becomes a nightmare.

Last season was a shambles that has set us back a fair bit and I expect it will take a damn sight longer than 1 transfer window to fix.
The fact is, that number of outgoings is required. We can't get away from that fact. The squad is far too large and is also not good enough to compete at the level we want. So we need to bring at least 4/5 quality players into a squad which is already 10 players too big.

But getting rid of them is going to be the hardest part as you say. Both old and young players who are not good enough are on lucrative contracts they will not get elsewhere. Players like Garbutt, Galloway, Sandro, Mirralas, Williams, Schneiderlin, and possibly Klaassen and Niasse. Hopefully some of those players will be prepared to take wage cuts to get regular football. Then there are players who just aren't good enough like Martina, Besic. Players with question marks over their ability like Funes Mori, McCarthy, Keane. Older players like Jags, Baines and Rooney.

Deciding who to get shut of and then actually doing it is going to be a very difficult task. There's probably another half dozen younger players I haven't even mentioned there, plus players out of contract like Mangala and Robles.

Walsh was a scout. Not a DoF with over 10 years exoerience. Allardyce was the absolutely worst posdible choice of manager for everton which is exactly why he stayed less than 6 months and is hated by majority of fans.

Not saying Brands is world class but other clubs have tried to poach him in the past. We haven't even picked a manager yet but I guarantee whoever he will be better than Allardyce

This all day long. In hindsight the step was too far for Walsh. I remember even saying after his first summer windowI wouldn't have seen out my probation period if I had delivered such a poor first 3 months in the job as he did.

Brands has a very different feel about it! Key point I've read is it appears he has a big say in the manager. It shows he is the main man behind the scenes then and the direction of the club is his undertaking. Whoever is chosen will know his place.

Disagree entirely.
Mori at this stage is our best defender. Strongest, best in the air, and quickest.

Far more mobile than Jags and Keane. And Jags ain't getting younger.

Not a massive drain on wages either.

The red card against Liverpool was like 3 years ago, let's all get over it for crying out loud. It was only 18 months ago that some of Europes biggest clubs were sniffing around him.
Did you even watch him this past weekend?

He's an utter cart horse of a defender.

Just looks to snap people because he can't defend. That's not to say any of our current defenders are much better but they are definitely better than that donkey.

If Coleman got injured there's already about 3 players I'd play right back before Martina because he's a disaster. I'm not saying buying a new backup right back is a concern, and I agree Martina isn't a concern if you can guarantee he won't ever play a game. But then again what's the point paying someone who you're not going to play no matter what? I'd just rather we paid him up and told him to go away tbh, further negating the risk that he'll end up on the pitch at some point in the future.

I'd play Sandro at right back before Martina! lol

Sell all of our centre backs apart from Holgate who himself needs to improve to command a starting place. In emergency keep Jagielka one more year for the bench.

Keep Baines to sit next to Jagielka for a year on the bench. Obviously keep Coleman.

Sell Martina too, and Galloway and Browning. Kenny backup for Coleman.

Defensive options of Coleman/Kenny/two new centre backs/Holgate/Jagielka/Pennington(haha)/Baines/new left back

Sign two starting centre backs and a new left back. Do major work to get them working as a unit in friendly games this summer.

I don't think Scheiderlin will be sold, Gueye obviously not. Sell Bolasie, Klaassen, Besic, send Baningime out on loan. Get rid of Rooney and Mirallas. Sign a creative midfield player and a left winger.

Get rid of Sandro, send DCL out on loan.

On Walsh definitely but question is whether he’s got the required experience and knowledge for a Premier League club. Hopefully he has because a lot rests on his shoulders.

Well there's only one way to find out...

Monchi wouldn't have had the required experience for a Premier League club either.

The DoF model is one that should - in theory - be able to applied to any club, at whatever scale, as long as the person in question understands the role.

He didn't ditch Watford though.

They panicked and ditched him, cutting their nose off to spite their face
He lost focus in a way which negatively affected their resultsand was fired. Would have preferred him to have ditched them at the end of the season.

You cant prove this though.

Maybe the players were annoyed with him non comitting and downed tools

Maybe they were just going through a bad patch

Maybe he is gash

Maybe the players are gash

Maybe both were gash

Thats my point its impossible to say and its why Moshiri needs to boot their clown owner in the plums.

It’s @Connor who you’re talking about isn’t it, I know he has ties with the club.
I won’t be disappointed if it is Silva. He just wouldn’t be my 1st 2nd or even 3rd choice, in fact he wouldn’t be on my list. But if Brands wants him then he must see something and I’d trust his judgement over my own regarding football and Managers. If it’s Silva I will back him for sure.

I wish.

@COYBL25's neighbour is very good folk. Very knowledgeable about the Bloos too.

He told me in February that Big Sam was going and how the club would go about doing it. Guess what, they went about it the exact way he described.
