do you think that signing the three players we have for c£65m is good business?
Fee wise, yes. What the wages are might make it look less so.

All Contract Marcel has done this window is the type of stuff a secretary like Michael Dunford did in the past.

I doubt Ancelotti has ever negotiated a deal in his life. But you are right that Carlo gives presence that will probably cause the player to push for the move instead of being nonplussed, once that happens it will help Brands negotiate from a position of strength.
Exactly
Carlo has a chat with the player over the football side of things and tells him to sit tight
Player says I want to go to Everton and no one else
Brands has selling club over a barrel

Thats a blast from the past.

Totally different roles and responsibilities

The main point to acknowledge is that the Brands model - of looking through the cast offs of decent clubs for younger players - has been cast aside.

He'll be leaving next summer and I think we;ll see a return to the manager only model of dealing with the playing side. The DoF role will be scrapped as a costly mistake.

If they are that good, I hardly think we had them over a barrel. If EL or CL teams came in, they’d have been off like a shot. They probably would have ended up loaned elsewhere, not saying there good signings but I put it all down to Carlo.

Mere details for a bureacrat to sort out.

The hard yards are done in getting a player to believe they should be at Everton and how they will play. Ancelotti has driven the deals through those phases. The rest is just pen and paper stuff.

Congratulations Dave. First prize for the most naive and ignorant comment I have ever read on this forum ;)

Jury is very much out on Brands for me, but to be fair, I don’t follow his every move. I’d never heard of Branthwaite until he made his 1st team debut last season. I like what I saw there. This kid from Marseille looked promising from the brief glimpse at Blackpool.
Clearly Allan & Rodrigues are Ancelotti signings. Hopefully we can bring in four or five of those to make an instant impact & give us a platform to challenge the top 6.
What I’d expect from Brands now is to bring in a constant stream of youth to be brought through to either challenge for 1st team or be sold at profit.

Our old club secretary role was quite a powerful one. They had a hand in the playing side by tying down players and also involved themselves in the commercial development of the club. So yes, different roles: Dunford had more on his plate than Contract Marcel, that's for sure.
