Is Brands a glorified chief scout?

Yes he is, mate. He's known in the industry as a "transfer guru". He's not known for being a chairman who decides the direction of a club, and he's not known as a coach or manager who decides who & what the tactics/team will be.

Brands' job at PSV was in charge of transfer policy and youth development. A little more responsibility than a chief scout, perhaps.

The good thing is, our flaws are so obvious that Brands will definitely know about them. If we don't have a LB, CB, CM and CF in by the end of next week, I'd be very disappointed in Brands.

I think finding 4 bonafide starters of genuine quality in 11 days is quite a big ask. For me, he’s already far exceeded the job Walsh did as he clearly has strategy and know-how, binning off all the deadwood he can (no easy feat I’m sure), whilst not signing a single player than won’t improve us immediately. We can’t afford any more missteps, it’s a real salvage job after the mess Koeman and Walsh left us in.

He hasn’t had just 11 days, though, has he? He’s had over two months. You’d only have to look at a few games last season to see our glaring areas of concern.

How has he far exceeded the job Walsh has done? We’ll only be able to judge that once the season is underway and we see the players he has brought in.

They’ve had to look at every player at their disposal, they’ve done that now. It’s also far harder than you seem to think to sign genuine quality which instantly improves your first XI

Think I already answered that second question, has a plan, not clueless or buying guff for the sake of it etc.

Time will ultimately tell. Sadly, I fear that this season is going to have to be a write-off whilst we start again. I just hope he sticks to buying young players that we can at least move on should they become surplus to requirements.

It's a huge job but it needs doing and unfortunately not something that's going to happen over one transfer window ,if the richarlison deal is an indicator of the standard of signing then I'm optimistic .it could be a mad couple of weeks coming up

Totally agree that I think this season will largely be a write off, but I still think we’ll finish 7th or 8th. It’s a massive job this pair have been left with, and young players like Richarlison or quality bargains ala Digne are the way forward.

This season was always going to be about sorting out the mess that Koeman / Walsh left behind, stabilising things and starting to rebuild the team. Anything else would be a bonus.

The clear out has started, hopefully some new players in the right position will be brought in, which will provide stability.

We are still in the throes of the Korman / Walsh legacy, as the last three games have shown us.

Patience is what's required.

Rumblings of board and squad problems, which is a worry because my crystal ball is not supposed to rumble. The pictures it does give are not promising, looks like mid table with Sandro leading scorer on 3, or is it 4 goals all season? Pickford keeps us out of the relegation scrap again. There is a fat feller in the dugout looks remarkably like Unsworth.
