Well done Marcel your Knighthood is in the post.. So good to have a member of staff who knows how to do his job, this guy could be are best signing in many a long year... COYB

Just like his namesake Marcel Marceau he quietly gets on with his job, great signing bringing some pride back to the club, everyone's talking about us up here at work this morning.

Now let's see Marco carry on with the good work on the pitch.

So, as somebody who doesnt follow World or European football, what exactly have we got in thse new players? I saw Mina in the world cup so i think i know what we have with him, but can somebody give a premier league equivalent to the others, so i know what we have to look forward to?

Don’t think we will see the best of Brands till next summer if I’m honest.
He'll now be concentrating on offloading some of the excess dead wood from the squad before the window finally closes, including the likes of Sandro, Bolasie.

When he's had a good view of the squad across the season and those in the youth ranks, then hopefully in the summer (as you mention) he'll show his real worth.

I think he has done a great job, particularly with outgoings, managing the shear volume of deals has been impressive in a few short weeks.

He also didnt blink as the deadline approached.

I'm also a PSV supporter and i know Brands from his time here in Holland. At PSV everyone is sad that Marcel has left the club. He works on the background but people close to PSV know that he was more important than Cocu or the players. The players had a good relationship with Marcel, especially the south american/spanish speaking players. And with his vision connections communication skills and deals he brought good talent to the club. Especially south american players. When PSV where crowned champions last year i was there in Eindhoven to celebrate and everyone was cheering Marcel Marcel, i heard his name more than any other...that says something doesn't it?

That he did so many (good) deals for Everton in such a short period doesn't surprise me, the guy is a complete workaholic!! And besides he is a gentle dude.

I think he will buy Lozano from his old club in the next transfer window, would be a good signing for the Blues and with Brands we have a DoF with a history and good relationship with Lozano. He can play CL at PSV this year but he will be off next season.

We’ve gone from trying to count on one hand the number of ok players we had in the squad to now looking like we have a good 11 with more attacking power than any time in our prem history. All in one short rushed window with a World Cup complicating it. Imagine what he could do given a long time to properly plan and scout.

I think this is it for me. This was a window where he had to spend much energy on selling players who are not his, are overpaid and poor and he made a very good fist of this. He also had to work with a new CEO and a new Coach. As each of them bed in it will get a lot easier.

He has opened up new channels. The free transfer market is one in particular, where you need skills, competency and connections that we have never had before. Most of our rivals don't have them either. It's a new area and one which could be very useful for us.

This is also true of the loan Market. Martinez tried hard with this but it became clear that he probably wasn't a good enough coach to attract the bets young players. It's clear Silva is very persuasive and impressive and I can see us being a very attractive proposition for sides requiring young players to get game time. We have also cemented a relationship with Barcelona, which even if we end up losing Mina (for a hefty profit) will be far more valuable than any one player. If Dembele doesn't get into the side, I wouldn't rule out us trying to make a January move! Brands is very central to this, and will have the credibility to negotiate with other European teams.

I also think we will open another avenue, which will be buying from areas like South America, hopefully seeing us get lads like Richarlinson, Lozano and Mina as a first port of call.

The club is in a good place. Brands is a very good operator and a difference maker for us. If Usmanov money doesn't roll in, we will become competitive, and if it does come in, then crikey what an opportunity we have.

This for me is the key. We used to just live in hope of another Kendall coming along and a team sprinting up from nowhere. We’ve arguably not been set up for success though since 1970. That mid 80s team was more built on one man’s individual brilliance and the success disappeared with him as quickly as it came. Moyes in a less successful manner was also an entire football operation built around one man. On a negative net spend he had us qualifying for Europe but prior to him joining and immediately after we were again in the lower reaches of the prem table with no strategy. For the first time in ages it feels as though we are finally working on the necessary infrastructure to maintain a certain level of performance. With Moshiri’s backing as well who knows where it will lead but at least we now have a bit of a plan that is building for success which doesn’t involve Kenwright spinning a wheel on a manager and hoping he’s a miracle worker. We’ve actually shown despite the devestation of Koeman that we could recover to 8th and get back on a progressive footing within 1 window to challenge the top 6 (hopefully).

Yes I agree with all of that and lots of insightful points.

You are right to say 1970 is a key date whereby we decline. We have more titles (and trophies) than Liverpool at that point and I think Manchester United. The best ground, the most fans. A team with an average age of 23/4 who've got 95 points. We mess it up massively from that point.

I've always been on the view that the Kendall renaissance is somewhat against the general trend line. That is not to say that we couldn't have reversed things but to me the post 85 decline was never as much of a mess as the post 1970 decline. There are large aspects and indicators of the club that are no longer the best and a fair way from it (though not the playing side of the club).

You are right to say that much of it was based upon Kendall's personality and also the unique relationship he had to the club. Thats not to say you won't find other such talented managers who have that connection but it's a lot less likely (Royle to some degree had this and I'd hoped Unsworth would). The key point is though that the success wasn't repeatable. It's very hard to replicate what Kendall did in the 1980's, he tried again twice and failed really on both occasions. He was spinning plates.

What we have needed for some time is someone to begin to take control of the club from top to bottom. Moyes did it a bit but without rally knowing it and it wasn't really his role. Brands though has shown he is an invaluable asset to us. Before the window started I felt he was our only asset coveted by teams above us. I now revise that to say he is not just that but a natural fit. I had the same feeling with Klopp at Liverpool, a very strong manager (with a similar CV to Brands) but who fitted exactly what they needed and proves a massive benefit to them in different ways. Though it's early days I see the same with Brands too.

If Moshiri didn't put another penny in this fella will improve us beyond what we were capable of before. If Moshiri/Usmanov give us a prolonged investment the sky is the limit.

You have to give some credit to Brands for this Window, when you look at how short it has been, the amount of players moved out and moved in. Coupled with the "Dreaded Work Permit" for Bernard, which has been the ruin of many a young boy, and deadline day delay, which saw us announce Kurt Zouma 23 hours after the window closed. In previous years I am sure we would not have signed Bernard and would have missed out on Zouma for certain. Looking forward to the season now and seeing how high we can finish

Already looking forward to the next window. Said earlier in the thread, it’s probably going to take Brands two or three windows to address the mess he and silva inherited. As others have alluded to, I think you will see him developing our scouting network over the forthcoming months, with particular emphasis on the South American market that he seems to know so well. But as a starter...I don’t think this window could have gone much better.

He has played a blinder. Yes many were late in the door...many cant actually play for a few weeks....but he has actually managed to get the managers players through the door...and players who will actually improve us.

The man has done his first job well....

Well done Marcel !!

I wonder where we would be as a club if we had managed to get Brands in as DOF instead of Walsh as Moshiri originally wanted. I sense there would have been a clash of personalities with Koeman, but I think the calibre of player at the club would be far higher then what he inherited this summer.
