Walking away from deals in a clear manner is important. In any negotiation you have to weigh up if you think you can get to a deal, that involves more skill than just continuing to reiterate your demands.

The eye catching stuff will be later in the window, but that sequence of agreeing terms with Tierney, walking away from the deal, signing Digne was the most important section of the window for me.

I think he is a pivotal figure for us, and could go on to have as much influence as Klopp does for Liverpool for us. Very important and influential signing.

Agree with walking away at the right time . Like I’m poker, one of the hardest skills to learn is when to fold a strong hand. I was impressed when he walked away from the Celtic deal and more impressed he already had digne in progress and landed him

Some very strange over-reaction happening in here.

We’ve come off the back of 2 seasons of people wondering what exactly Steve Walsh did - without ever really learning what that was.

As a result of that, and Walsh’s failure, it’s hardly surprising that the club felt the need to communicate to the fans why we have a DoF, and why Brands is an improvement.

Brands kept out of the limelight while he was doing the important recruitment work of the summer. Now that it’s done, we’re getting to hear from him about it.

I think that’s great. It’s baffling me to that anyone could disagree.

I don’t see any downside to Brands doing this. Last week I saw plenty of people asking why he hasn’t talked much yet.

There were a few concerns from the fans this window leading up to the deadline:
  • Mina wasn’t interested in Everton, he was waiting for a better offer. - The interview dismantles that theory by saying it was Barca playing hard ball and the lad was keen to join since day 1.
  • We didn’t have any back ups or other targets if Mina didn’t join. - He mentioned that at first we had another top class target in Lenglet, and were exploring other options when there was risk of Barca not going through with the Mina deal.
  • Overspending on wages (Bernard in particular was talked about as being a bad signing because of his personal deal). - We’re much better off when looking at the wage bill despite having a really balanced and on paper much better squad.
As well as many others. He’s trying to build up our stature in the game and it can only help when going after other players who are in demand like Mina was.

Brands makes me moist.

As does this quote about Mina

"The boy was clear, he wanted to play for Everton, so that helps a lot, of course"

We all had him down as a mercenary....and all along he wanted to come
He may have wanted to come to us all along but Brands wasn't under any illusions that Mina wouldn't be swayed if MU offered crazy wages, hence there were backups in place in case it all went Pete Tong. He's a man with a plan.

He was probably asked for interviews, so he did a media day, personally I found the interviews quite refreshing and gives us fans some idea of the thinking behind the window and his thoughts going forward.

Ive lost count of how many times people claim the club should give the fans more insight and here we are.

How you think he dissed United and Barca im not quite sure.

Agreed, I didn’t think that he was disrespectful - At the time the negotiations were forming he was silent, his words have come at a time when it doesn’t matter as there’s no chance we divulge targets/jeopardise deals.

Nice to see a man talk confidently about the impact he’s had. The reports and his words give fans insight and confidence - Not sure what’s not to like.

Additionally he’s hinted his primary objective the first team is done for now - The next focus is developing the youth squads. He’ll disappear out of the limelight and resurface when the time is right.

Love how descriptive his relationship with Silva is - Reading in between the lines they seem to be both on the same page and planning for the future.

See you soon Marcel you hunk. x

As i posted before, i think were aiming for Barca type players...keen on Lenglet....signed Digne Mina and Gomes from them + Richarlison and Bernard are definitely Barca 'types'.

Now we just need to go for the players before Barca target them lol

Tried with Malcom

Can Imagine Walsh coming out and explaining the Bolasie/Sigurdsson deals.

We went in with £20m, but they said pay more so we just paid up. They then wanted more money so we just caved and gave them more money.

No wonder he didn’t conduct any interviews. He probably arrived back at home and felt guilty about the deals he made.

Monchi is recognised as the most high profile success as a DOF.

He's open with the media + has built up his own profile so much that when a player knows hes wanted my Monchi he feels that hes part of an overall strategy...whats not to like?

Managers who are high profile attract the best players...DOFs are also similar.

This can only help us and increase our pull and media profile.

Regarding Barca etc, hes speaking as fact...as he is with Watford.

Top interviews and a breath of fresh air.

Very well put

He said: “First my focus was only on the transfer window, to make a good squad for the new season. But from September 1, I will be focusing on the youth."

“I saw the last two games of the Under-23s at Chelsea and in Manchester. That is also an important thing. I will go down to the young ages, the Under-16s and Under-15s also.

“We have a lot of work to do at this fantastic club.”
