He does need to deliver the value deals or we will not succeed, that is for certain.

We only need to win three on the bounce for people to start vastly overrating the squad, the reality is that there is much work to do.

There isn't much value to be had though, not these days, every club has its golden goose now.

I still expect him to target the so-called cheaper markets, in particular Northern and Eastern Europe and South America for new signings. Interesting in the echo article that there is also a Balkans scout. I thought for several years that we largely limited ourselves to the domestic market, to our disadvantage both in football and value for money terms.

I wouldn't be surprised if the fee paid for Sigurdsson stood as our transfer record for several years to come, the business of putting a decent squad together will be a delicate balancing act between what we pay per player and the numbers we need.

I just hope there is a season by season plan though and it is reviewed from a harsh mindset each year. As the saying goes if you don't know where you are going, you don't know how to get there.

Bottom line is though, there is no silver bullet to ensure success. DOFs at every club will all spout the same thing and put roughly similar structures in place. We are playing catch up and hoping that Brands has a touch of genius about him which is really a shot in the dark. The proof will be in the evidence.
Not necessarily disagreeing but hasn't Brands just said we won't pay more than what he feels a player is worth. If that's the case you could surmise we'd pay 50m plus for a player if that's what he feels they're worth and theyre a main target. Richarlison for 40m happened under his watch also which isn't much less than Siggys fee. Personally I'm happy with us finding gems for less, it works well for other successful teams so why can't it for us too but I would expect big signings if they're available and willing to join us.

I think Keane has really come on this season, he looked dead and buried last season and now hes POTENTIALLY our best CB, not a lot between him, Yezza and Zooms for me anyway. DCL looks a bit better as well, wouldnt say massively like.

Rico didnt score a single goal this year before he joined us, he only got a cap for Brazil under us, to say he hasnt blown up is a bit silly Frank.

I mean most people have gone from "Did Everton overpay" to "Did Everton underpay" in 4months.

Yezza and Zooms? You'll be saying 'Top Corner' next. Wool behaviour.

Just a quick note: Brands said we were after a Ukrainian keeper but wouldn’t have got a permit so maybe Eastern Europe won’t really be targetted.

Both Keane and dcl have struggled for any sort of consistency..

I wouldn't say both players have come on leaps and bounds at all.

Richy is a Brazil regular. Its not like he needs coaching to that next level.. He's already there!

Richarlison wasn't anywhere near the Brazil team before he started getting coached by Silva...

Jesus Christ. Even Richarlison has said his development is mostly down to Silva.

Keane has been consistent. He's had one poor performance all season - against Spurs last week.

DCL I agree, but I think there's signs that he's becoming a bit more adept at picking up goalscoring positions (had that Spurs goal counted, he'd have scored 2 in 3 starts), and seems to be improving his all-round game.

Gomes , Mina and Bernard all took time to make appearances and Mina and Bernard are still getting used to the league and will both be up to speed by the end of the season
...and Brands will be given credit when they finally do. It's that simple. Until then...

Brands is postering in the media to create a stance that our players won’t be sold cheaply - There are many for sale, many who wouldn’t need replacing this window too.

On possible ins - We probably won’t bring in anyone. I am happy with this for now. Not one signing we could make would transform us into world beaters.

I think the best we can hope for this window would be Niasse out on a permanent, McCarthy if fit out on loan, Holgate loan.

I previously thought we would perhaps bring in a loan striker, but it wouldn’t make sense with how DCL has been name dropped for development with first team exposure for the remainder of the season.

Next summer is when we can expect a lot of movement.

Baines contract expires
Jagielka contract expires
Browning contract expires
Gomes loan terminates
Zouma loan terminates
Williams contract expires

Vlasic returns from loan
Onyekuru returns from loan
Pennington returns from loan
Besic contract expires 2021
Bolasie contract expires 2021
Sandro contract expires 2021
Mirallaa contract expires 2020
Tarashaj contract expires 2020
Martina contract expires 2020
Garbutt contract expires 2020

Some big contracts falling off the books next summer who will need replacing to some extent as with Baines going will need LB backup plus with Jags and Zouma we will need one more centre half if Holgate sticks around - 2 if he goes back out on loan.

If we can offload the dirge coming back on long term deals hopefully we can address the CM x 2 (fingers crossed one of them is Gomes), RB, Striker and another inside forward capable of creating competition and strengthening the bench.

This January is going to pale in significance to what Brands can and will do with this squad come the summer.

Some utter crap on that list (bar the two loans of Gomes and Zouma obviously)
Big summer coming up then and I'm glad Marcel Brands is over seeing it and not Steve Walsh

It's an interesting comment by Brands. The 84/85 side had 5 players who scored more than 10 goals that season and the opposition didn't know what was going to hit them.
The following season we concentrated a lot of attack through Lineker (I'm not knocking him. He was superb). But when he was injured we simply didn't win the games we needed to.

Like the flipping cup final.

Dave goes on about the two from PSV but Brands stuck it out and decided they were overpriced what is wrong with that? There is Dave on the one hand talking about overspending and look at him now, needs to wake and get his marbles in a line.

For me Brands is doing a good job and showing exactly the resolution need which went missing under RM, RK and BFS.

We need to be finding these players before they hit the 50/70m bracket. Both the centre mid beasts we have been linked with are in this bracket now.

This is what I view about doucoure. He's a good player, but I'm sure we could find another powerful box to box player who has all the same attributes like when Watford bought him, for a fifth of the price. The same could possibly go for a young right back like wan bissaka, and arguably we already have that on our books already in Kenny. Strikers are maybe the only exception, hence why we shouldn't be looking for one in January.
