I think the fact that we appointed a DoF who had seen Klaassen's entire career at close hand, and one of the first things he did was sell him for half what we paid for him, suggests that this is probably not true.

It's all relative I suppose. He's a good player in the same way that Niasse, Bolasie and Besic are, but I don't think any of them are good enough to do well here either.

Also you said he could have done well here, which is what I was disagreeing with in the main, but you now seem to agree that he wasn't suited to the league, and therefore couldn't.

If players that suited him and played to his strengths and weaknesses were put alongside him he would have done well , but that was never going to happen

You'd like to think that a good footballer will always find a way to play regardless of physicality - but I guess that's just not the case with our league. Some small players can run the show in the middle of the park, but Klassen evidently lacks whatever it is they have.

Recall Ajax fans posting here saying he was an absolute lock to do well - Mr consistency and a leader. Southampton fans said the same about Schneiderlin - never had a game less than 7/10 and was usually an 8 or a 9. Decent, reasoned posts as well, not just fanboys bigging them up. Didn't expect him to bomb so badly myself.

Both have one major thing in common. They aren't good athletes. You don't have to be big and fast to be great in the PL, but you better be REALLY good at almost everything else.

I can see a huge amount of players leaving, 15-20 off on loan or permanent.

Also a few coaches like Unsworth given the chop in a polite yet ruthless manner

Did he get enough time

If you had seen him at Ajax (i watched that season quite a lot but rarely since) he was in a very youthful and exciting team where the players had been together and come through in a specific system which they were all used to and programmed to know where their teammates would be most times.

Most games they were very quick and dominated the opposition and he was able to have a lot of space but didnt look anywhere close to the quality of some of their other players such as De Ligt, Dolberg and Sanchez.

I couldnt imagine him being teleported into a premier league team at all.

You not make it as a professional footballer and play for Brazil being 5”5 if you don’t have too technical skills and first touch. To over come the physicality of other players you have to be very skillfull

Looks daunting at first glance but I cant see Brands having a problem with MOST of them being culled .
Top 4 on the list will be gone in a matter of months saving over 200k pw.
Its looks like some know their future isnt here and will move anyway , McCarthy Vlasic Schneiderlin Besic & Tosun.
The rest like Galloway & Garbutt will be sold cheap.
We do have problem players to shift Bolasie & Sandro etc, but every club has to deal with that we are no different.
With the amount Brands punted players out this summer I see him doing exactly the same this summer.
Then we should see real progress.
