I'm disappointed that we couldn't get anybody in, even if it was just some jarg striker on loan, but I think any moves this window were always dependent on whether we could sell at least 1 player (Tosun and Schneiderlin being the main targets to shift). Brands definitely has his work cut out, we have 15+ players returning to us in the summer, the vast majority have no future here whatsoever. I think we'll be forced to take some proper hits on some of our players this summer, like selling Bolasie for £5m kind of hits.

Balancing our books, unfortunately, will probably take about 3 seasons to do. With the stadium hopefully on the horizon as well, we may have seen the last of drunk shopkeeper Everton for a while and return to the thrifty nan Everton of the Moyes-Kenwright dynasty.
You sound like a kid with two quid in the pocket sad because he didn't spend it on crap

I'm not sure which Everton team you've been watching this season, because it can't have been the useless one the rest of us have suffered with.

We have an average team, and are majorly short in some positions (striker being one) and I would have liked to have seen us address that this window, even if it was a short term loan. If you read the rest of my post (that's if your attention span lasts more than two lines) you'll notice that I said we were always likely sell to buy this window, and since we didn't sell anyone we didn't sign anyone so I'm not surprised, but still disappointed as I want to see Everton improve.

I trust you do as well but if you're happy watching some of these same players play like crap week after week, I guess it's each to their own.

ive just told you. klassen was ajax captain for several years and got them to a Europa final

vlaisic played for a hadjuk split and did ok. Sandro must be the luckiest player ever to get a contract of the size he got, on the back of scoring 13 goals for malaga and that's it.

clubs were much more prepared to take a punt on klassen. funnily enough that's what happened. the other 2 are still here rinsing us

Vlasic isnt 'rinsing' anyone...

Hes showing hes the best player in Russia and increasing his value

Getting rid of Mirallas, Bolasie, Sandro & Schneiderlin as a start will free up the wage bill a lot & hopefully get some money back, even if at a loss for Bolasie & Frenchy.

Then we can sign Lozano who is an upgrade on all 4 at once. Vlasic hopefully returning a better player & getting a fresh start would be great, but if he wants to leave due to being mistreated like Barkley at least we will make a decent profit from him.

We need to sign a quality striker, attacking mid/no 10 to replace Siggy, another winger & hopefully go for Zouma permanently, otherwise another CB to cover Keane & injury prone Mina. Probably another holding mid to cover Gana & definitely a right back to cover & potentially replace Coleman.

So about 300M?

You don't think, given Marcel does his job well, we can raise at least £50-100m from the list below?

Vlasic helps.

Mirallas - 2M
Baines - 1M
McCarthy - 5M
Niasse - 6M
Bolasie - 10M
Schneiderlin - 5M
Basic - 3M
Tosun - 15M
Maybe get up to 50M with some of the others.

Vlasic could go for upwards of 25M. Onyenkuru could go for 18-20M.

I can live with it, water of a ducks back, been called worse by better. etc.

Biffo Brands, has a certain aliterative charm.
All we have to do is get an derogatory aliteration for Silva and when the fume starts and the calling begins it can be done in a proper dismissive and disrespectful manner,.
Like BPB - Boys Pen Bill for Kenwright

So, over to you readers, (and @davek) have at it, give us a dismissive aliteration for Silva
As in...
Biffo (Brands) & 'your insulting nickname here' (Silva), couldn't sign a decent player to save their lives.
Quite why Long John Silva keeps getting overlooked, I cannot say. Seems fitting, giving Long John stabbed Jim’s Hawkins in the back in the book!

What more could he have done this window?
Probably a lot, if the right deals were out there. But if they're not out there, then you have to consider what premium you are willing to pay or walk away if they're not to your advantage. I think this window went par for the course for a well run club. We have seemingly not been a well run club for a long while now, so it probably is hard to recognise this.

All the players who are out on loan are getting most if not all of their wages paid, and none of them were going to be playing here, so he's saved us some money which is about as much as we could realistically expect.

He's going to have to go at the next transfer window like he did in summer and get about 4 regulars and a couple of prospects in and ship some of the dross out. This time though, he should try and get rid of that dross on a permanent deal rather than temporary ones.

He’s got a job on his hands that’s for sure. I’m sure he’d even consider paying up some of the contracts just to “help” them find new clubs.

We’re still funding a huge % of bolasie wages. I’d reckon the same for Sandro and maybe Williams. Wasters like Schneiderlin, who is not remotely interested in football, is creaming £5m a year off us. Substandard players like Pickford Keane Iceland and Theo will be creaming the best part of £25m out of us this year

Steve Walsh brought this club to its knees, make no mistake about it this damage is long term.

What more could he have done this window?
Virtually impossible for us to say really. This is my only concern though, that we all just sit here saying yeah he's doing a great job, no way he could do more, without any idea whether that's actually true. I have no evidence that he's doing either a good or bad job so far, so i'll just wait and see what the future brings. Quite why some people (not you, or the comedic extremists) need to pronounce that he's either a miracle worker or a charlatan I don't know.

It is not just us who haven't spent this window. Without the usual panic buys from the struggling clubs, there were no transfers of note, barring a couple of loan deals.

Yeh I was aiming it more at those saying “terrible window” etc. like the have a clue what we’ve tried to shift/but.

Lots on here live in fantasy land thinking we can just buy and sell whenever we want.

The Summer (well from now till then as well) will be where he shows his worth. I’d be more impressed by him selling day Sandro than him signing someone for us.
