Everton target Marcel Brands admits leaving champions PSV would be hard

Marcel Brands helped PSV to the Eredivisie title on Sunday and says it would be difficult to leave the Dutch champions for Everton .

Marcel Brands, the PSV Eindhoven technical director, says he faces a ‘hard' choice whether to leave the Dutch club this summer amid ongoing interest from Everton.

The Merseyside club continue to court Brands as yet another Goodison restructure seems inevitable at the end of the season.

After PSV secured the Dutch championship over the weekend, Brands admitted interest in his services, while insisting walking away from the Eredivisie club will not be easy.

“I have a contract at PSV. There is interest but is it hard to leave this beautiful place,” he told Fox Sport.

“We are busy preparing for next season. We started doing so at the winter break. Now it’s time to relax and celebrate.”

Such comments are unlikely to dissuade Everton’s majority shareholder Farhad Moshiri who has been analysing Brands' work for a considerable period.

It is uncertain whether Everton's owner, Farhad Moshiri is committed to his manager, Sam Allardyce, beyond the end of the season.
Nevertheless, with Steve Walsh already in position as Goodison’s Director of Football, there continues to be a sense of ambiguity regarding the long-term positions of several key Everton figures.

Chief Executive Robert Elstone’s imminent departure to Rugby’s Super League will create a significant opening, but it is inconceivable a figure of Brands' clout can be lured without the guarantee of authority to oversee a much-needed, thorough review of all footballing operations.

That will do nothing to end uncertainty surrounding the position of Walsh, whose recruitment record since leaving Leicester for Everton has shown no sign of meeting the lofty expectations Moshiri set when buying the club.

Manager Sam Allardyce, meanwhile, has been unable to convince the sceptics among the club's fans that he should be considered anything more than a quick fix to the diabolical situation he inherited when Everton were flirting with a relegation fight.

The Everton board knows if they stand by their manager going into next season, the disenchantment that has polluted this campaign will only subside if the club gets off to the most positive start imaginable – and even that would not prevent a summer of disillusionment for those anticipating and demanding a dynamic and fresh vision from the top of the club in response to a torturous year.

Marcel Brands: “I’m not going to wait too long and I will make a decision. The decision has not been taken. It’s difficult to leave this behind. At PSV Eindhoven, I work with people I cherish.

Sounds like he’s coming with ITs Difficult to leave this behind

He's coming. If he wasn't he's had a few chances now to quash it. He's looking to see if he can bolt a little bit more onto his financial package.

Sounds like ‘if you want me so much why are you offering me less than your buffoon manager currently earns and why do I have to retain that moron Walsh?! Also my stance has not changed on wanting to boot Bolasie to the kerb as soon as I get there regardless of how much you paid for him’

Sounds a coded message of 'I want to bring a lot of my own people with me'

Just a guess but think we are seeing Brands through the media exerting pressure on wanting full control - including which staff will be working under him (Maybe wishful thinking but Walsh may not be one he wants present?)

Like a few have said prior.
If he is the main target for the role based on his previous achievements/accomplishments and experience, then he is the main target.
If he has certain conditions be it staff or work, then you should be seriously considering them or move on to another target who is more willing to negotiate alternate terms.

If it means we change our structure or perceived structure to bring in someone who has runs on the board then I have no qualms. Because as it stands at the moment we are rudderless.

i'd like to think that was a case, only a complete simpleton would let anyone currently at the club with any influence have any input going forward.

I'd imagine he's stalling to extract a better financial package but the position of Walsh may be a secondry factor. Moshiri may want to demote Walsh to head scout the logic being we'll have to pay him anyway so it's better he's doing some work.
Brands may not be quiet so keen on this arrangement feeling it would undermine his authority as DOF if the former occupant of that role were still an active employee.
