Vlasic was a pure Koeman indulgence signing. ‘Oh he looked good against us, Farhad I need another 10 mill’
To think if he’d got his way we would have had Giroud for 40 mill, Sissoko for 30, Lamina Kone for 30, and Arnautovic to play on the wing.
He singlehandedly set us back about 5 years.
I don't think that's likely. BUT I will grant you that some of the characteristics of a good manager 30 years ago would simply be part of the skillset of a D of F. The Manager - really a head coach now - is just a different role. That's just how I look at it.We've had player power since the Bosman ruling, and prior to that teams in Europe were using the DoF system and sacking managers far more regularly than we did over here
The day the manager was relegated to being just a coach changed football forever, and part me still isn't sure it was for the better
I know some absolutely love the idea of a DoF and like to white knight for it, but to me it's something that comes with it's own unique set of trapdoors
Part of me genuinely thinks that in the coming years the idea won't last and we'll go full circle back to managers having more autonomy again. The age of the manager will return I think, it might not be for a couple of decades yet, but I think we'll get there eventually
The Vlasic signing wasn't a bad one, though, and we had already been scouting him and Split.Vlasic was a pure Koeman indulgence signing. ‘Oh he looked good against us, Farhad I need another 10 mill’

Hardly a modern example now is it.
I think is definitely for the worse. Football is just a farce now, with “managers” being at the mercy of overpaid p@@cks who down tools if they do not like their coach. We've had player power since the Bosman ruling, and prior to that teams in Europe were using the DoF system and sacking managers far more regularly than we did over here

Really, hes retired 5 years. Its hardly not a modern example or the game has evolved, if anything its regressed. Almost the same pool of managers were working at the same time.
I think a better question is does a DOF enable or disable a great manager, would Ferguson have been better with a DOF or not for example.
David Gill
You keep saying him but he was Chief Exec. Nothing like a DOF.
Pretty sure Woodward does the transfers for United now.
want me to make up a transfer rumor to keep you occupied m8?He really needs to get a move on, either he’s limited financially or he’s playing his best poker game.

"With the central defender, from the beginning we had Mina on our list and Lenglet on our list but he went to Barcelona quite early in the market so it was quite simple for us: go for Mina," Brands told the ECHO.
“And, honestly, I was watching England v Colombia in the house of Farhad with the chairman and Marco and I said: “S**t, he's scored”.
“Because that makes it more difficult for us and especially as it came against England, so that was double s**t.
"You go through those kind of things in the market, it's like it is.”
Brands says the Blues could have secured his services earlier in the window if they had be willing to pay more but the Dutchman was unwilling to pay over the odds.
“I came in on June 1, you identify positions and you start working," he explained. "Then you have the World Cup and a smaller time in the window and you don't know what kind of consequences this will have for the countries around us.
“Do they wait? You saw in Barcelona, they were expecting bigger offers for Mina in the last days of the Premier League window, that is why they waited.
You dont rush what wont be rushed.
