Agreed. I'm hoping for some good signings but a few weeks ago i'd be lying if I said the thought of Zouma coming in +3 more didn't leave me thinking top 6 was within our reach.

With two weeks to go, IF Gana goes and Zouma doesn't sign, seems another 'transitional' season beckons.
That's exactly how I thought on the matter, although I did expect Gana to go. However, if he goes for £28 million then that is not enough. I reckon it would cost more than that for his replacement. You have to wonder where the money is going to come from. Let's say, giving conservative estimates for the players we need (bearing in mind they have to be quality, as Silva said):
RW: £40 million
ST: £30 million (or these 2 prices could be the other way round)
Gana replacement: £40 million
Zouma replacement £30 million
RB: Loan if we are lucky.

£140 million total. Just don't see where the spends are coming from.

If we get:
Vlasic £15 million
Lookman £22 million
Gana £28 million
and say
McCarthy £10 million
Besic £5 million
Bolasie £5 million (if we are lucky)

Total = £85 million.

So a net spend of £55 million isn't too bad and we might shift some more dross too. But I wouldn't be surprised if we ended up having to pay more for the positions above and our squad will still be very thin in terms of useful numbers.

EDIT: forgot we've already spend approximately £31 million. So net spend of about £86 million

Interesting 2 weeks for Mr Brands coming up I think... you'd hope that this has been planned for considering Gana has wanted to leave since Jan, but you know, Everton and that.

Not surprised Ganas gone , can’t say I’m gutted although his attitude in the final quarter of the season was spot on. Good luck to him.

There is a lot of talk about the project at Everton and I would like to see us retain our better players and build on that, not lose them to be replaced. Retaining as many as our better players as possible and for as long as possible and adding quality to that year on year for me is a sign of a project moving forward.

Whoever the replacement is I hope they come in asap.

Yes.

Hes been unfairly labelled as some sort of superhuman though and expectations are through the roof.

He managed to pull a rabbit out of a hat this time last year - doping the same this would be welcome, however concerning that hes not actual able to do the syuff that people have been lauding him for.

its nothing but guess work. We have no clue what is going on behind the scenes so it's a bit daft to throw random figures about. This is the part of the window when the work goes up a gear, we can only sit & see how it pans out. Will be sad to see Gana go but it was always on the cards since Jan

Tbh, I do kinda side with the people that he plays hard ball. I imagine we have been playing hardball over a couple of targets, thinking Malcom, Kean and one or two others.

Problem is, there probably needs to be a cut off for hardball and more negotiation when we are losing Gana so we can move on all our targets. Getting them in on deadline day is all well and good - but we need them integrated before then as the season is right on top of Deadline day.

I hope you know what you are doing Mr Brands because you previously said that Gueye's sale would only be sanctioned when a suitable replacement had been found and appointed and Delph is definitely not that guy as the Manager has already stated just a couple of days ago. You have got a mountain of work to do in a very short time and we are currently weaker than last season.

Don't let us down please. That is a polite way of saying get your fecking act together you beaut. lol

Only just reading these reports of Zaha being linked again - once again by Jim White.

We all know who his source is.

Brands' job being made nearly impossible by that clueless idiot above him playing some sort of fantasy championship manager.

So much easier said than done. If Everton do not get amongst the challengers then it is so much harder to retain the better players because there are much better teams in the same league as well as abroad. It is breaking the top 6 that is the hard job but if we do then it becomes much easier to retain and the market opens up for us to get a better calibre of player. That is why the top 6 stay strong because they just go to the likes of Everton and take the pick of our better players )if they are good enough for a top 6 team). They get stronger we get weaker. Most of our signings represent a gamble and it is a gamble that has to pay off to get amongst them but the question is always " Why didn't a top club go for them". We actually need a top 6 team to implode for us to sneak in and if we do we have to maintain it.

The word is that Gana is going nowwhere until we find a replacement

You are right, it’s easier said than done, very easy. My problem is I don’t want us to be stuck in a monotonous circle of 8th, 7th, etc for years on end , I want us to be significant in the years to come not an after thought like so many years gone by.

I hear what the likes of the CEO says such as “we are planning for Champions League” and so on. That’s great and I realise things take time but within that time you want to see the progress , substantial progress, the latter stages of the season showed glimpses of that with some of the results. This coming season is a big one, the new DOF and manager have had a year to settle in, now let’s see where we go.

The window hasn’t closed of course, so far it’s been a little underwhelming and again it’s being left to the very late stages of the window. Why? Know what I mean? Of course we could have some good signings lined up, I hope so as it feels a little flat at the moment.
