Definitely but Gomes and Delph are injury prone, we brought Gbamin in and Silva was banging the drum before even he picked up an injury that he needed time. They tried for Doucoure but we were always light in the middle of the park for a team/manager setup to go 4-2-3-1 every week.

Not sure on Kean - I didn't see him kick a ball for Juve and Serie A in a Juve team is a world away from playing upfront on your tod for Everton. His cameos have been as bad as any - vs Watford in the cup in particular. Even if he hit the ground running, we needed another striker. Still, if we can get Ancelotti then maybe he can get Kean going. He was signed to play upfront in a 4-2-3-1 and I just dont seem him as being that type of striker who can hold the ball up/bring others into it.

I'm conflicted on Mina, think his tendency to attack the ball unsettles the whole back four.

Mina certainly isnt a calming influence at the back.

???????? what, He started vs Wolves and played fine.
Came on vs West Ham and set up Gylfi goal.
Played poor vs Watford but that's because Silva is utter gash.
He's an absolute player and once the team settles down and a manager who will give him a chance, He gets 10 mins here 20 mins there and is expected to light the pitch up and then we have the United incident, Hardly been the ideal first season for him and the club.

And either is Keane.

Yet, that defence was allowed to start the season.

Well we all knew we needed a CB, I know im making excuses but I think we honestly thought Zouma was in the bag, Luiz messed that up BIG time, then we were scrambling around for garbo like Smalling and Rojo, it was certainly an error on Brands part. Holgate has come in and done a decent job, Keane is up and down, but very much mostly down.

Dont think our defence has been the biggest issue, putting away chances has been and failing to break down teams have been our main problem, other than not being able to field a midfield all season.

Put it this way, if Carlo comes in, you wont be getting any holding back if things dont go as he wants.

Too simplistic Friend we have a number of problems, quality, attitude, are principal ones. By and large a rubbish squad which needs a good sorting, Brands at least shifted some of the nonentities but more to go. Carlo will need time and money.

Yeah we need more in the middle for sure. I'm glad Holgate has stepped up and looked good. Who would you want to bring in?

I thought he was poor vs Wolves (had the 2nd worst rating on the pitch according to these), he also didn't assist Sigurdsson's worldie vs West Ham and he was totally and utterly lost against Watford (in the same way he did against Man Utd) but sure, pin it on Silva.

Surprised anyone can argue Moise Kean hasn't had a disappointing start to his Everton career but that's not really the point - the main point being, and it's one on Brands (hence this being his thread) - we could never rely on Moise Kean to lead this Everton attack this season.

We still needed a striker.

To play devils advocate a bit here though, how different was Kean to when we brought Lukaku in? Is the difference being how well we utilised each?

Lukaku was much, much, further on his development when we brought him in. He'd just scored 17 Premier League goals the season before, there was little chance that he was going to flop completely.

So he was 1 season ahead of Kean really. There is a lot of things Martinez is criticised for, but I think he utilised Lukaku very well, especially in that first season. I'm not sure we can say the same of Kean thus far.

Not really. Lukaku had played over 150 club games and had about 20 international caps when we brought him in. Kean had played 41 and had 3 caps. It would have to be a very busy season for him to catch up a 130 game deficit. That's without taking into account the key part of what I was saying. Lukaku didn't need to settle into the country, learn the language, get used to the pace of the league etc. He'd already done all that, he was much further down the road than Kean.

I've been banging on about taking Diaz on loan from Real during the summer and even now. Doesn't really get a sniff and would be pretty good here as he's apparently ace in the air.
