Not really. Lukaku had played over 150 club games and had about 20 international caps when we brought him in. Kean had played 41 and had 3 caps. It would have to be a very busy season for him to catch up a 130 game deficit. That's without taking into account the key part of what I was saying. Lukaku didn't need to settle into the country, learn the language, get used to the pace of the league etc. He'd already done all that, he was much further down the road than Kean.

Ok, and you think thats a key differential in performance, as opposed to how he's been used?

It's very difficult to answer because I haven't seen enough of Kean. It's easy to put it down to not using him well enough (we heard exactly the same about Klaassen, Sandro, Sigurdsson, Keane etc) but I have no idea whether he would have been ready to play regular PL football if he'd gone elsewhere at this stage, or whether he'll ever be a top quality player. I understand that he's highly rated, but I can only judge him on what I've seen, and on that basis he's fairly lucky to have played as much as he has. Lukaku was totally different, I'd seen him playing in the PL and knew he was up to it. If he hadn't done well there'd have been serious questions asked, seeing as Steve Clarke had managed to get 17 goals out of him in the same league.

Thats fair. I think the comparison is probably closer to the season Lukaku went to West Brom.

As for the above, there's probably a lot of truth in all of the players not being utilised well. With the exception of Sandro (who I would have said was quite limited) I'd say all of them have ability. The issue is though, they all probably require quite different teams/approaches to be successful. I don't think we have really played to any of their strengths. There is a wider issue of recruitment here, that we have sought to by good players with no idea how to utilise them.

Sigurdsson was best when he had a big lump to hit it too. Keane in a side that sat deep and defended it'x box (he'd have looked great for Everton in 2004/5) Klaassen in a side where he's surrounded by players who dominate the ball and he can link it with his energy.

Good recruitment is not just about signing good players, but signing players that fit a system of play and asking them to do things they are comfortable with.

And bringing it back to Brands, I've been saying this about Kean since the Sheffield United game. We can't blame Silva for not using him properly, we all knew how Silva set up and how he liked to play. Going out and getting a striker who looks totally unsuited to that style is completely on Brands.

I thought he was poor vs Wolves (had the 2nd worst rating on the pitch according to these), he also didn't assist Sigurdsson's worldie vs West Ham and he was totally and utterly lost against Watford (in the same way he did against Man Utd) but sure, pin it on Silva.

Surprised anyone can argue Moise Kean hasn't had a disappointing start to his Everton career but that's not really the point - the main point being, and it's one on Brands (hence this being his thread) - we could never rely on Moise Kean to lead this Everton attack this season.

We still needed a striker.
Well it has been disappointing but I don't think that's just down to Moise alone it is a mixture of things, Yes he didn't assist the Gylfi my bad he helped set it up tho!!
From the glimpses he has shown I think he looks a very good player and he's probably not settled quickly as we'd have liked him to and he probably is shocked by the pace of the Premiership. I don't even know if a striker would have fixed our problems the way Silva played it would have been a struggle for anyone we signed because all we did was cross the ball and he kept on picking a snail Gylfi behind the striker.

United isn't Everton.
Correct!
It’s common knowledge that at Everton the manager actually lives in a wormhole that means he has 48hrs every day, so unlike at Utd he has plenty of time to manage the scouting network, negotiate deals and contracts and oversee the integration of the various age group sides.

how do the people not get such a simple concept, Dave?

Hard not to question his position, but I thought putting his quotes on the press release was the boards way of signalling that he's still a big part of the picture.
