2019/20 Marcel Brands

He became available. He wasnt head hunted by anyone.

He was contacted, or his agent was, gave us the time of day, and liked what he saw/the package.

The only unanswerable is exactly Who convinced him. I have my theory, but thats all it is. I very much doubt that a powerpoint presentation was key. More a reassurance after the big picture outline by Moshiri, or someone else.

But hey, he is here on a long term deal. Happy Christmas Carlo.
I think it was Usmanov that convinced him personally and obviously since he is in the background it’s said that Moshiri did it

Heres Carlo bending the knee.

“We have an idea to invest and try to improve the team but I have to speak with Marcel first because he has an idea, I have an idea and together we can find the right solutions,”

“I think we don't need to make a lot of changes in this period. If there is a possibility to improve the squad with one or two players, it can be helpful, but we don't have to change a lot in this period because this squad didn't reach the level in this part of the season and I would like to help them reach their level in the second part.”

Ancelotti says he and Brands must form a “strong relationship” in the coming weeks and months.

“We've only had two or three discussions in the last few days but we are going to work together, we have to work together,” the Italian said.

“It is important to work together with the club and the players and the supporters.

“We have to build a strong relationship with each other, this is really important to have success and every decision we are going to take will be together, with the board, with Marcel and with me.”

It is understood that signing a right-sided centre-half and a striker are seen as priorities by Ancelotti for the summer window but he may ask for a temporary solution in those areas next month.

The belief that Ancelotti needs Brands' say-so on anything is farcical.

He's basically sparing Brands' blushes there.

A nice gesture by Carlo, thiugh: the feller is down and out, why roll him into the gutter? It achieves nothing. And everyone knows who the new governor is anyway.

Carlo doesn’t need to make nice gestures. He’s won more than anyone else.

He’s clearly going to work closely with Brands on signings - suggesting otherwise is a bit silly really!

He'll tell Brands who he wants; Brands will get them. That's fundamentally different to the role Brands was supposed to take up here (and did when working with Silva).

The hiring of a superstar manager has just destroyed the basis for Brands' job.

You really think Carlo Ancelotti spends his time off scouting players, oh Dave.

Even Carlo said :

"We have an idea to invest and try to improve the team but I have to speak with Marcel first "

Just surrender.

...it'll just be a coincidence when we start signing players with surnames ending in '...ini' and those Ancelotti has worked with. :coffee:

I don’t get it either. Silva was quoted about trying to get Gomes, iwobi, certainly Richarlison and bernard so I don’t quite understand who brands has come up with thus far anyhow. Even if most have been dreadful, who knows who threw the name in the hat. This is all just speculation but a good debate

Brands is probably just a point of contact for the agents who let him know of players availability and he will contact agents of certain players who the manager may be interested in. Building relationships with the agents is probably his main responsibility to be on the pulse in the transfer market. Not being some chief headhunter of talent with eyes everywhere as some people paint it
