Marcel Brands

The Athletic reported the other day that Brands had only just instructed the U23s to play the same formation as the first team so when players are making the step up it's an easier transition.

The whole club is a mess.
9 years in the making.

It’s absolutely no shock that in 9 years our only academy product is Davies, you could argue maybe Gordon, but he’s hardly established himself.

The players we’ve signed for decent money, like Bowler, Gibson who may well have made it, if they’d been playing in our system.

Unsworth a a joke, why has he not thought to play this way, ultimately no one cares if they are winning, we care if they’re coming through, successfully for the first time and making an impact.

Continued the trend of massive massive wages for average players on long contracts.

For that reason alone he is a clueless fraud dosser who needs to get in the bin.

Inept little rat handed Keane a cushy new 5 year deal last season, just in case you still thought he was any judge of character or ability. Mug will take us down if he stays.

I’d absolutely love for Moshiri/Kenwright/DBB to explain how this absolute no-mark got a new deal in the summer with a record as abysmal as he has at the club.

It’d almost be comical if it wasn’t so tragic.

The way we chucked the best part of 50m at Arsenal for Walcott and Iwobi, and with Moshiri’s previous association with Arsenal, it all seems a bit suspicious. Probably nothing, but doesn’t sit right with me

Definitely due to previous relationship. But I think is more of we were a bit desperate to get a right winger that time, so dealing with Arsenal was easier and quicker due to previous relationship. But I think Moshiri must've realised he has been duped by now since we have not signed anyone from Arsenal since Iwobi.

Not sure whether Iwobi is Brands or Moshiri's signing. But it was Brands' failure to get a proper right winger early that caused a panic buy. According to reports (unsure if it's true), Iwobi didn't even have medical and signed for Everton.

I mean Unsworth should be sacked for being allowed to spend circa 15m on academy prospects over the years and have them all released pretty much.

Gibson. Bowler. Sambou. Adrenian to name four off the top of my head.

Why did it take 9-years to start playing the same way?

Why, as you’ve said, was he able to spend this money, only to not nurture these players? Why was he playing the likes of Charsley and Pennington.

His tactics, were Pulis-esque, and how can your players develop in those conditions and second yet, actually understand how we play?

Your main job as U23 manager is to develop players, if you can do that and win, great. 9 years and we’ve got Davies as our only product, and he’s below average.

Not sure why this hasn’t been scrutinised more?

probably because new manangers come in and change the way the first team plays so the u23's then have to change to replicate that new managers style

When did a new manager come in and change how we play?

Since Martinez, we’ve played a turgid style of possession football.

Unsworth plays some rigid, ineffective football, it’s Anti-Football.
