Marcel Brands

The first time I came across Brands was on one of the club's social media clips where he attempted to tidy up the shirt collar of some young player signing for the club before a press conference.

You could see then that he just oozed marketing guff.
All hot air, no substance.

He's David Brent in an Armani suit, a LinkedIn bore, a greased PR man who has a meeting to arrange a meeting.

He earns more than those parasitic Instagram influencers but he contributes even less to this planet than they do.

I'm not a fan.

‘Is it just the players?’ was very telling from Brands. And whilst he’s been a failure, he hasn’t been allowed to do the job we supposedly wanted him for.

Benitez should go and we need to decide if Brands is going with him, or we let him actually do his job, starting with choosing the next manager.

How do we know Brands hasn't been allowed to do his job as opposed to say being, you know, just plain incompetent at it?

It's the lack of transparency around the club that has me asking this question. Perhaps Brands has been prevented from doing his job - as I said the transparency issue means none of us really know - but why do we think this necessarily?

After all, Brands has both been offered and accepted a contract extension. He was offered, and indeed sits right now on the board of the club. How does sitting on the clubs own board gel with the idea he's somehow being "stopped" from taking the club forward?

Is it we're all hoping this fella actually knows what he's doing - and is being prevented somehow from doing so - than it has any actual basis in reality?

Either way his position at this point is untenable.

1) He’s not allowed to do his job - Then he’s an unnecessary wage drain and should be removed.

2) He’s genuinely whank at his job - Should be potted for his disastrous performance in the role to date.

The fact he’s recently signed a new deal suggests that those in charge are blind (or wilfully ignorant) to the failings of the role as it exists in its current guise, Brands fault or not. That’s the most alarming aspect for me.

Well he should be operating all football matters, but it’s pretty obvious he wasn’t the one pushing for Ancelotti or Benitez. And he definitely wasn’t the one pushing for James, Allan, Rondon or Townsend.

We don’t know his remit of course but this surely wasn’t it.

Rafael likes total control.

Brands may have had little to spend, but who did he actually try to bring in? Unattainable targets. Why was it down to Rafael to actually ring around and bring his own players in.

Who did Brands sell and why did we make a significant loss on his own signings.

In the last 3 years, we have a net loss of nearly 100 million. That's a substantial amount of money.

How is having total control for a manager consistent with a European model of having a DOF, which the fans so desperately want?

You only have to look at the signings during his time to have a pretty good idea of who wanted to sign which player. They are really obvious signings (which is one of the issues really I suppose.

I don't care if Brands goes or not, he is a DOF at the end of the day, no kids have posters of him on the wall or anything but I do think he has been given a bit of a bum steer by Mr Moshiri. It sounds like utter chaos.
