What’s clear is Brands and Benitez are not working together as a DoF and Manager should. Benitez was not Brands choice. So if that’s the case and Benitez is being given time, surely Brands has to go and a DoF brought in who will work with Benitez. The current situation can’t go on.

I do find it slightly irritating that the press are always throwing the "£500mill spent" line... completely forgetting £300mill of that was under Walsh and only Pickford, Keane, and some Icelandic feller are the only ones still here (which is itself £100mill which is ridiculous).

The squad assembled now is about the same spend as Wolves, West Ham, Brighton, Leicester over Brands reign.

Of course says nothing of quality...but it's not like we've got a £500mill squad on the field e every week

Definitely wasn’t him
On the video, he was a scouser. He’s been on talksport a lot of the years and talks [Poor language removed] half the time

Well he should be operating all football matters, but it’s pretty obvious he wasn’t the one pushing for Ancelotti or Benitez. And he definitely wasn’t the one pushing for James, Allan, Rondon or Townsend.

We don’t know his remit of course but this surely wasn’t it.

You only have to look at the signings during his time to have a pretty good idea of who wanted to sign which player. They are really obvious signings (which is one of the issues really I suppose.

I don't care if Brands goes or not, he is a DOF at the end of the day, no kids have posters of him on the wall or anything but I do think he has been given a bit of a bum steer by Mr Moshiri. It sounds like utter chaos.

I think what he means though is that while we know that this isn't how the model is supposed to work we don't actually know that this isn't what he signed up for. There's nothing to say that he wasn't approached and told there was a nice cushy consultancy type job available for him where he'd be asked to recommend a few players and do a bit of background work with the academy and all that but wouldn't actually have all that much responsibility. The fact he signed a new contract when it was obvious what the situation was definitely makes it harder to believe that he's been blindsided by all this.

No point having a DoF In that case. The manager needs to work with the DoF not the other way round. The DoF is meant to oversee it all and managers fit the mould they are building.

Oh yeah definitely. I guess it makes sense on his part though. Comes in with a decent reputation, gets paid really well and then gets no real say in what he is supposed to be doing. Gets offered loads of money to stay and do nothing, he would be daft not to take it.

I think it's more to do with trust rather than if he plays well with Dofs.
