No right back cover after 3 seasons from trialling Sidibe
No left back cover at all this season
Signing slow midfielders
Iwobi.

Hes not all to blame but he is terrible at his job so needs to go
Agreed but that's not the only thing needed. It would be nice to know just who is in charge of transfers for a start. Is it brands? Is it benitez or is it moshiri? Or some weird hybrid of these? Cos I'll be honest with you I don't know and I don't think many others do either.

If you employ managers like Ancelotti and Benitez who demand control the there is no point having a director of football.

If you have anowner who imposes his judgment on who the manager should be and overrides the DoF then it renders his role redundant and the DoF impotent.

If , however the owner accepts that he hasn’t got a clue about football and wants to build a young team with a young coach then you definitely do need a DoF , but make sure that it's one who unlike Brands is decent at his job.

I’m going to go for all 3, considering that agent stated you needed approval from 3 people at Everton. Let’s be honest, this goes back to Steve Walsh days as well; the season of the 3 number 10’s

Koeman - Klassen
Walsh - Gylfi Strollsaroundsson
Kenwright - Rooney

Then you have Moshiri with links to Tosun and Iwobi; it’s shambles

I agree with 90% of what you say but I think Carlo and Benitez sanctioned the removal of Sidibe and the loan of Nkounkou so Brands is getting pelters but some of it is probably happening above him. The same with Moise Kean. He has been instructed to get rid but how we could have done with him the last 2 months irrespective of his attitude. If we sign these managers who are only looking beyond their nose then DOF is simply a glorified salesman so get rid. I would like to see a more professional approach long term but the club can’t afford any mistakes have knee jerked for years. Allardyce, Ancelloti and Benitez are testiment to the short term approach which is failing.

Exactly an absolute shambles. I'm surprised in a way that a bloke like moshiri who has (i assume) got some idea of how organisations work i.e. well defined rolls within so that accountability is known from the start. With the way it is he's showing he hasn't a clue how to set up anything you could almost say he is treating us as his plaything (perhaps that's what billionaires do).

What boggles the mind is he can look at our squad and think going into a season with no genuine back up quality at either full back position is acceptable? Especially when one full back is 33years old and injury prone. It's actually insane. I will lump Benitez into this too since apparently he turned down Dumfries.

The Dumfies case is a classic example of the DoF and Coach not working in harmony.

Dumfries is a very good capture if the play with wing backs but is poor in a back 4.

If Benitez had no intention of playing wing backs we should never have been interested in Dumfries and wasted so much time and effort pursuing him.

If recruitment was good do we think we would be having these conversations? The club is bankrupting itself by buying lower than bang average players on rediculous transfer fees and wages.

If he doesnt buy the players then he should go, no point in having him. If he does buy the players he also needs to go, I cant think of a more damning indictment of the job he has done than pointing out the players that continually start games or sit on our bench.

61 year old Benitez is also not the answer.....

My opinion, and I know many will disagree, thats everyones right. I would bring in a DoF and Manager that have worked together successfully previously, my choice would be Overmars/Ten Hag from Ajax. Both focused towards youth and what they can develop which will help the academy.

Who is a world class DoF? Is there such a thing? Does this model work in this country?

Yes and if you don't want him you go for someone else seems we waited to the last few weeks to approach Rangers and Arsenal about players. It's shocking. Then you look at the forward situation we let King go and Kean presumably due to FFP issues but replaced with Rondon I mean I know the budget was tight and he was Benitez's man, but I would take either over Rondon.

I honestly think the next thing that happens is Brands being set up as the fall guy and getting the sack. What happens next is critical. Benitez won't want a replacement and will attempt to expand his own influence. If Moshiri goes down this route instead of brining in a new DOF with clear authourity over football matters then things will only get worse as the fans are never going to accept Benitez and want him gone sooner rather than later.

We desperately need to get rid of the DOF structure and give the manager more autonomy, be it Benitez or whoever. Like many have said in this thread, Brands' role is completely redundant at the moment.

We currently have three forces all pulling in different directions. Moshiri needs to let go of this big name 'Hollywood name' mindset and step back from football decisions. Brands either gets to pick the manager or he leaves and Benitez/other needs total control of recruitment, playing style and the funds to implement it.

Of course, any progress is completely stymied until 90% of this squad are moved on.
