Marcel Brands

…I think that’s the ideal scenario, the trouble for Moshiri is Brands takes a lot of unnecessary flack that will have to be directed elsewhere.
Oh yes Eggs, I've said all along he was brought in as a scapegoat by Moshiri, I just think that Moshiri misjudged it and didn't realise how unsuited to modern day premier league football Benitez is

Looking quite bleak for Brands.

Survived manager after manager after manager.

Should he be sacked and let Benitez have the next window?

Will there be cash to spend on squad depth?

When is this board meeting I have read about?

…we now know he didn’t want Benitez as Manager & feels he’s doing a useless job.

I’m actually warming to Brands.
He wanted Ten Hag and believed he could get him.
I'm nowhere near as anti Brands as some on here, I still think he's exactly what this club needs. It needs a developed youth system, a burgeoning academy, a dedicated style where a change of manager wouldn't have a detrimental affect, all the things he was brought in to do. But Moshiri thought different, so too did Kenwright. Trying to sort all that out with such a basket case of a club plus getting shut of so many players whose contracts he's had to run down because they're so gash no one will buy them... it goes on and on.
I think the reason he's on the board was because he was going to walk early on, he'd been sold an.absolute pup, and I think similar for Ancelotti.
Given the freedom to control and organise the footballing side overall I think he could still be good for us, but no more Moshiri Iwobis or Benitez decisions, no more DBB and Kenwright appointed coaching and academy staff.
We get shut of Brands do you think all that madness would stop?

Benitez has to go first - he is largely responsible for this run and sacking him could result in a bounce; sacking Brands isn't going to result in anything other than Benitez thinking he has won (despite not winning for months).

If Benitez is sacked, then the club should really look at what they are trying to do with Brand's role - if they aren't doing things in the way he (or any director of football) works and don't plan to change that, then he should go because its a waste of time and money in him being there. If they want to change things so that the next manager fits into that director of football structure, then he should stay and be given a chance to do what he is meant to do.

….I don’t disagree with much of what you say. I think he’s an easy target and it masks the real problem.

I’m ambivalent, though, to him staying as he’s been here throughout the shambles. Whilst I doubt he’s acquired the players many say he’s accountable for, we are in a mess re FFP & I would think he has to be in some way accountable for that.

You ask would the problems stop if he leaves & I would say most definitely not. The problem hasn’t been with Brands, it’s been with the processes that allow Managers and the owner to control transfers. Brands isn’t a DoF. The processes have to change to make a difference. The processes have to change for accountability.

Employ a new DoF, employ a new Manager. Empower the DoF to work with the Manager and bring in players that fit the playing strategy. The DoF brings in players, the Manager has no power of veto but they should be professional enough to be on the same page. The DoF is accountable for players, the Manager for team selection, organisation and tactics.

Moshiri financially supports the club but has no part in player acquisition. Brands and Benitez are best leaving, let’s get a progressive pairing to take us forward.

My fear is if Brands goes then Benitez gets the keys to the piggy bank, and I don't trust him either!
I agree mate. Both should be fired imo as both have done an awful job along with half the board including Kenwright. The only way this club will survive and move forward is for new people to be running it in all important areas.
